We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual to join our Discovery Chemistry Department as a Research Associate I-II and work as part of a team to drive success. Ideal candidates will be self-motivated, independent, committed to the generation of high-quality data within a fast-paced and innovative research team. The Research Associate I-II will support ongoing RNA-based drug discovery projects in several therapeutic areas.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Carry out assigned laboratory functions applying knowledge and skill in an accurate, timely manner.
  • Manage and maintain equipment, reagents and dedicated laboratory environment needed to carry out assignments.
  • Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with critical collaborative partners throughout the company.
  • Track progress against project timelines, generate regular status updates, and communicate progress and issues to management.
  • Execute daily laboratory operations with an approach designed to minimize risks and hazard waste streams.
  • Maintain all appropriate corporate standards for lab safety and hazardous material management.
  • Maintain updated and well-organized lab notebooks.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Synthesis:

  • Prepare novel oligonucleotide synthesis runs on the Mermade 12 or OligoPilot.
  • Perform cleavage and deprotection of oligonucleotides.
  • Quantify amount of oligonucleotides synthesized with the NanoDrop.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot all equipment used in oligonucleotide synthesis.

Purification:

  • Purify oligonucleotides using preparative HPLC.
  • Purification analysis and identification using analytical HPLC and ESI-LC/MS.
  • Desalt purified materials by TFF, MWCO, or desalting columns.
  • Concentrate final product on the Genevac or lyophilizer.
  • Quantify amount of oligonucleotides synthesized with the NanoDrop.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot all equipment used in purification.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. or MS in Chemistry, or related scientific discipline.
  • 0-2 years of biotech/pharmaceutical industry experience
  • Experience working in an organic synthetic, chemistry, or analytical laboratory.
  • Familiar with modern chromatographic techniques, automated flash chromatography and modern analytical techniques (NMR, HPLC, LCMS, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience with various analytical methods such as GC, LC, LC-MS/MS, etc. to support analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Organizational skills and collaborative experience are required for extensive interactions with internal stakeholders.
  • Understanding of project timelines and deliverables and plans/coordinate project work accordingly with departmental, functional, and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency working with Microsoft Office Suite Products.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in biotech/pharmaceutical industry a plus.
  • Previous experience with RNA/oligonucleotide therapeutics is preferred but not essential.
