Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Research Assistant I to join our team. This role will involve working under minimal supervision, independently and in collaboration with others, to perform research and conduct a wide range of standard laboratory procedures. The successful candidate will analyze data, interpret results, and investigate, troubleshoot, and modify methods and procedures as necessary. Additionally, they may assist in designing experiments and provide routine equipment maintenance and guidance/training to other department personnel.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Work under general supervision, with assistance provided for unusual problems and reviewed for application of sound professional judgment.
  • Perform human primary cell and cell line culture, preparation of media and reagents.
  • Handle in vitro assays for BSL2-level viruses.
  • Data analysis and lab notebook documentation.
  • The position requires great attention to detail, dexterity of the hands, troubleshooting capability, and flexibility to adapt to a fast-paced environment.
  • May provide interpretation and initial analyses of results.
  • Limited ability to troubleshoot and modify procedures.
  • May assist in designing experiments to complete a segment of the overall research plan.
Requirements
  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill, and abilities have been attained.
  • Requires 1-3 years of experience. Candidates possessing a Master's degree, 0-2 years of experience required.
  • Ability to independently conduct a wide variety of standard laboratory techniques/procedures. Some ability to use judgment when necessary to adapt standard methods and techniques.
Physical Requirements
  • This position works in a laboratory environment.

Compensation

The expected hiring range for this position is $20.67 to $25.06 per hour, commensurate with experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
