Scientific Research Associate in Vaccine Development


At Scripps Research, we are seeking an exceptional research associate to join our team of scientists working on vaccine development for diverse viral pathogens. As a scientific research associate, you will contribute to various projects, assisting staff scientists and principal investigators, and may be recognized as a contributor to resulting publications.

Position Summary:


The Zhu Lab is focused on rational vaccine design for HIV, SARS-CoV-2, HCV, filovirus, RSV, influenza, and several other viral pathogens. As a research associate, you will work in a laboratory environment, performing various molecular biology and protein experiments, such as DNA cloning, PCR, site-directed mutagenesis, bacterial transformation, protein analysis, mammalian cell culture, and transfection. You will also have opportunities to learn advanced assays in virology and immunology and participate in vaccine evaluation studies.



Responsibilities:



  • Contribute to various projects, assisting staff scientists and principal investigators
  • Perform molecular biology and protein experiments, such as DNA cloning, PCR, and protein analysis
  • Learn advanced assays in virology and immunology and participate in vaccine evaluation studies
  • Assist in the development of vaccine candidates for diverse viral pathogens


Requirements:



  • Requires a bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience
  • Requires 1-3 years of experience, e.g., as an undergraduate internship. Prior experience in molecular biology and protein biochemistry will be a plus but not required
  • Must be keen to learn, have good organizational and time management skills. Must be neat and capable of detailed record keeping


Estimated Salary Range:


The expected hiring range for this position is $54,000 to $65,000 per year, commensurate with experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
