Cheese Shop Santa Barbara, a small, family owned cheese shop is looking for a full-time cheesemonger / Team Leader.  This is a full time position (35+ hours per week) and our open days are Tuesday - Saturday (closed Sunday & Monday).

Overview:

This is first and foremost a customer service position, and we’re looking for someone who sincerely enjoys helping people in a positive and upbeat demeanor.  In addition, being excited about specialty cheeses & other foods and an eagerness to share that with others is an absolute must.  The position involves handling food, working with knives & slicers, cleaning, and learning our preferred methods for cutting and wrapping cheeses & cured-meats.

In addition to the cheesemonger duties, we also are looking for someone to act as the Team Leader on the floor responsible for ensuring that the day runs smoothly.  Responsibilities will include:

  • Managing daily to-do list
  • Communicating daily updates
  • Identifying and mitigating issues
  • Keeping the shop clean & tidy
  • Maintaining inventory quality and turnover

Prior experience managing a team is a requirement.

Job Requirements/Qualifications:

Must be comfortable using knives, commercial meat slicers, sampling, handling and selling cheese and meat products

Working in a team environment but also able to work independently if required

Strong communication skills

Eager to learn about new products (cheese, meat, specialty foods) and sharing your knowledge with our customers

Detail oriented with the ability to multitask

Ability to be adaptable and flexible in a fast paced working environment

Excellent phone etiquette

Maintain a clean and tidy work space

Lifting 40 + pounds on occasion

Standing for 8+ hours a day

What we offer our Team Members:

Consistent schedule with great hours.  We are open 5 days a week and we close at 5:00 pm. Closed major holidays including Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Available shifts and compensation: Available shifts all days except Sundays and Mondays. Compensation is $20.00 - $22.00/hour.
