Cheese Shop Santa Barbara, a small, family owned cheese shop is looking for a cheesemonger. This is a full time position (35+ hours per week) and our open days are Tuesday - Saturday (closed Sunday & Monday).
Overview:
This is first and foremost a customer service position, and we’re looking for someone who sincerely enjoys helping people in a positive and upbeat demeanor. In addition, being excited about specialty cheeses & other foods and an eagerness to share that with others is an absolute must. The position involves handling food, working with knives & slicers, cleaning, and learning our preferred methods for cutting and wrapping cheeses & cured-meats.
Prior experience with food service and/or customer service is a huge plus.
Job Requirements/Qualifications:
Availability on Saturdays and through the holiday season (closed on the actual holidays themselves) is required.
Must be comfortable using knives, commercial meat slicers, sampling, handling and selling cheese and meat products
Working in a team environment but also able to work independently if required
Strong communication skills
Eager to learn about new products (cheese, meat, specialty foods) and sharing your knowledge with our customers
Detail oriented with the ability to multitask
Ability to be adaptable and flexible in a fast paced working environment
Excellent phone etiquette
Maintain a clean and tidy work space
Lifting 40 + pounds on occasion
Standing for 8+ hours a day
What we offer our Team Members:
Consistent schedule with great hours. We are open 5 days a week and we close at 5:00 pm. Closed major holidays including Thanksgiving and Christmas.
