We're hiring a Vice President of Culinary and Commissary Operations in the DMV

As the VP of Culinary and Commissary Operations, you will work closely with all team leaders and senior leadership to continuously improve the food experience for our customers, plan for professional growth of teams, and evolve processes and workflow for greater efficiency every day. You are a self starter and actively seek input and feedback from key stakeholders and shop teams because you know that feedback is the only way to improve our food and systems. You’re responsible for driving financial results for our commissary and for the company at large. You’ll be an inspirational leader for your team, nurture the next generation of leaders at CYM, and do so through our Values (“VIBES”).

This role will drive execution of our commissary operations – our bakery and production kitchen that supplies the bulk of our food to all CYM shops including our signature bagels. This position requires a passion for people, customer service, operational excellence, scalable systems, continuous improvement, measurable results, and really good food. This position will lead the Culinary, Supply Chain, Production, and Logistics teams, establish & maintain strong culture, ensure effective communication between our shops and commissary, and continuously guide the business to operational excellence. This position is based in Washington, DC, and will also oversee our commissaries in Denver, CO. You will report directly to the COO.

A day in the life of a VP of Culinary and Commissary Operations at CYM:

  • Communicate the vision of Call Your Mother to managers and teams and ensure that our vision is executed every day
  • Lead and oversee all culinary and commissary operations including supply chain, food and beverage, quality assurance, production, and logistics teams
  • Maintain constant feedback loops between all relevant stakeholders to maintain an extremely high level of accuracy, food quality, and communication
  • Maintains the highest standards in terms of health, safety, compliance
  • Develop and manage processes and procedures to manage food safety and quality assurance
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship for direct report managers including Commissary Directors, Food and Beverage Manager, Supply Chain Manager, Logistics Manager
  • Establish and implement mid-to-long-term strategy for how we’re growing our commissary operations as we open more CYM shops and expand into new markets
  • Discover what areas of the business can be improved with technology & automation
  • Support leaders to ensure that equipment and facilities are maintained at standards necessary to ensure smooth operations and safe working conditions
  • Identify team members with high potential and ensure that training plans are created and implemented to help develop our future leaders
  • Quick to react to financial opportunities related to production cost and labor costs
  • Conduct monthly business reviews with leadership team to review P&L’s, surface customer insights, areas of improvement, and plans to grow commissary business
  • Be a voice of calm and confidence in high pressure situations and demonstrate leadership through adept problem solving

You’ll be a great addition to the CYM team if you:

  • At least 5 years of experience leading operations/supply chain functions within a food manufacturing space, including food safety and quality assurance, production, and procurement
  • Outstanding leadership skills and ability to motivate a diverse team in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience implementing production and labor plans yielded the highest quality of product and best in class financial performance
  • Experience in and/or knowledge of baking techniques and methods  and experience in leading a high volume culinary operation
  • Demonstrated excellence leading multiple departments across multiple locations
  • Ability to attract, develop, and retain high performing work teams
  • Experience in identifying and implementing technology to fulfill business needs
  • General knowledge of industry benchmarks for operations, procurement, logistics, etc
  • Sense of humor, positive attitude, and passion for food required
  • Must believe in a hands on managing style and be willing to lead by example
  • Excellent written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Analytical skills to identify trends, make operational decisions, and solve problems
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
