Position: Planned Giving & Development Assistant

Salary: $65,000

American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR) is seeking a results-driven individual with exceptional communication and relationship-building skills to join the AICR team as our Planned Giving and Development Specialist. AICR is U.S. based charity, based in Arlington, VA and is affiliated with WCRF International with units in the UK and Holland. AICR funds cutting-edge cancer research related to cancer prevention, treatment, and survival.

The Planned Giving program at AICR is a successful planned giving program that produces between $4-6 million every year from bequests and trusts. This position requires basic knowledge of wills and trusts and 5 years of experience in either major gift or planned gift fundraising.

The person chosen for this position will have an opportunity to work with a highly experienced consultant and a law firm to promote and collect planned gifts. This is a valuable training opportunity.

An ideal candidate is an exceptional communicator, has experience speaking with donors and is a good relationship builder.

Main Responsibilities:

Bequest & Planned Giving Administration:

  • Opens and reviews all Bequest mail
  • Uploads all information to CCK, our bequest collections law firm
  • Communicates with CCK on pending Bequests and Matured Planned Gifts
  • Answers & directs all calls and emails regarding Bequests and Matured Planned Gifts
  • Serves as primary liaison to DRCS, our direct mail agency, for the implementation of the Bequest Series Promotion program
  • Monitors data entry/fulfillment/TM processing of Bequest responses
  • Coordinates copy review/printing, monitors inventory and responses of Newsletter booklets and booklets for Bequest fulfillment.
  • Conducts Bequest Series copy approval with staff, consultant and legal partners
  • Manages the annual review of all Bequest procedures and letters
  • Serves as POC for bequest process questions with Supporter Services, IT and data entry
  • Assists in planning of Bequest Series selects/tests, works with IT to enter source codes in Bluebook and Bequest and Planned Giving databases, monitors results
  • Processes and prepares acknowledgements for all endowment, donor advised fund and IRA gifts
  • Regularly cultivates a small portfolio of gift annuitants and other donors
  • Participates in the required training to learn and keep current with basic Planned Giving techniques
  • Learns how to use the Crescendo basic calculation program and works closely with the planned giving consultant to provide donors with illustrations as a follow-up to their Gift Planning inquiries
  • Directs Estate Planners to appropriate staff or Crescendo who can provide necessary documentation to complete their clients’ planning needs
  • Manages the review process of the Estate Planner Newsletter and subsequent Gift Planning resource materials
  • Maintains up to date donor records for all portfolio, bequest and estate planner donors
  • Maintains Bequest Tracking Spreadsheet
  • Maintains and documents all bequest and planned giving procedures
  • Supports SVP, Development on end of year accounting

Development:

  • Management of the small Special Events program to include marathons and ProShred Shred Cancer events
  • Management of assigned portfolio donors
  • Provides staff services to any other projects as assigned

Requirements:

  • Basic knowledge of wills and trusts
  • 5 years of experience in either major gift or planned gift fundraising.
  • 5 years fundraising experience (preferred)
  • Experience working with outside vendors
  • Experience building relationships with donors
  • Highly effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Great organizational skills
  • Detail and Deadline-Oriented

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
