JOB SUMMARY: The Irrigation Technician/Project Specialist is responsible for the installation, repair, and upkeep of Member home irrigation systems. Job duties include electrical troubleshooting, pipe repair, irrigation head repair, yearly system maintenance. The job includes duties to be able to recommend part replacements, new system installation, job quotes, and inventory control. This employee will operate irrigation field controllers, pipes, valves, irrigation sprinkler heads, light/heavy vehicles, automobiles, tractors, riding mowers, and push/pull mowers. He/she will also work with electrical wiring as related to irrigation systems. In addition, the Irrigation Technician may be required to supervise small groups while involved in these tasks.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Responsible for all irrigation plans for Member home systems.
  • Help Members monitor and run their irrigation systems when needed.
  • Detects, makes necessary repairs, and maintains irrigation equipment.
  • Accurately reads various gauges as related to the irrigation systems.
  • Operates light/heavy vehicles, riding mowers, backhoes, push mowers, rakes, shovels, blowers, sprayers, hand saws, hydraulic boom, small tools, and any other equipment associated with turf care.
  • Communicates with the Members on needs and repairs.
  • Shovels dirt, sand, and other material.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by management.

BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:

  • H.S. or GED degree preferred
  • Must have 2 years of work experience related to irrigation systems
  • Knowledge of and/or the ability to learn about the care and proper use of tools and equipment used in the development and maintenance of the irrigation system.
  • Basic electrical wiring and plumbing skills
  • Strong math skills to calculate flows, pressures and materials
  • Good written and oral communication skills; ability to work as part of a team
  • Valid drivers license
  • High degree of focus on details and a commitment to excellence

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Demonstrated experience and working knowledge of OSHA standards and other environmental safety standards, as applied to chemicals and compounds
  • Must have sufficient physical strength and ability to independently and repeatedly lift, move, and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds and to repeatedly lift, move, and carry objects weighing up to 100 pounds with assistance
  • Ability to walk 2-5 miles per day
  • The employee will frequently bend, squat, twist, crouch, push, pull, lift, and carry, stand, and walk.
  • Work is performed outdoors while exposed to dampness, fumes, odors, dust, dirt, rain, sleet, snow, heat, chemicals, machinery with moving parts, loud noise, and irrigated water.
  • This position requires physical endurance during periods of extreme weather conditions.
