Summary

Under the supervision of the Co-Investigators and Project Manager, the Research Assistant provides recruitment, enrollment, and data collection support with the ongoing implementation of a randomized control trial to test an HIV prevention intervention (PrEP for Health) targeting HIV uninfected people who inject drugs.


Implements recruitment efforts that lead to study participation

· Identifies and implements recruitment strategies that lead to study participation

· Attends weekly meetings with PrEP for Health study team

· Screens and schedules potential participants as specified by study protocol

· Develops and maintains screening and recruitment related databases

· Communicates with recruitment sites as liaison for the study team and partner organizations.

Conducts surveys and arranges study visits with study participants as specified by study protocol

· Assesses and documents eligibility and participation status of candidates and arranges baseline and follow-up appointments with potential and enrolled participants

· Conducts survey interviews with study participants in a clear, open minded, non-judgmental context

· Maintains established guidelines of confidentiality and ethical accountability in all discourse with study participants

Coordinates study retention efforts

· Implements retention efforts under the direction of the Project Manager

· Assists with the establishment, revision, and evaluation of retention plans

· Completes the day-to-day tasks of study-related retention including calling participants and interfacing professionally with staff at community-based recruitment sites

Develops Study Materials and Maintains Regulatory Procedures

· Assists with the development and revision of study materials including protocol, informed consent, eligibility screener, recruitment materials, and other study documents as needed

· Coordinates with other study sites to ensure continuity in study procedures

· Assists in preparing materials for IRB submission, liaising with Fenway compliance manager and staff to meet IRB deadlines and ensure that submissions are in line with Fenway procedures

· Assists in developing and maintaining databases and other data collection systems

· Monitors the quality of written and computerized data, including regular data quality assessments (quality assurance and quality control activities)

· Develops and maintains regulatory folders for the study, ensuring the timely revision of all documents contained in the folder

Assists in the development of research projects and publication of study findings

· Assists with the publication of research findings through editing, writing, and preparation of manuscripts and conference presentations

· Assists with grant writing and study progress reports, as needed

· Maintains current knowledge of HIV research by reading medical journals, articles and other HIV-related publications, attending conferences, seminars, forums, trainings and other presentations pertinent to the field

Meets Agency Participatory Expectations

· Adheres to all agency and departmental policies and procedures

· Participates in quality assessment and improvement activities as requested

· Adheres to the highest principles of patient and client confidentiality

· Adheres to established safety policies, procedures and precautions; identifies potential or actual unsafe situations in the environment and takes measures to rectify the situation

· Attends all required meetings, in-services and professional trainings

· Maintains professional competence necessary to perform job responsibilities; maintains and provides agency with records of continuing education activities

· Serves on agency committees and in professional organizations when requested

Performs other related duties as required



Requirements:


· Demonstrated ability to take responsibility for assignments and deadlines and to work as part of a team

· Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask and prioritize

· Excellent communication (both written and verbal) and computer (Microsoft Word, Power-Point, Email) skills

· Willingness to regularly travel between Boston and Cambridge, MA, for recruitment and study visits

· Willingness to occasionally travel to Lawrence, MA for follow up study visits.

Preferred Skills

· Prior experience conducting human subjects research highly desired

· Bachelor’s degree in public health, social science research, biomedical science or related field preferred.

· Prior experience with REDcap database software preferred

· Undergraduate coursework in statistics and research methods highly desired

· Experience with substance use and/or HIV-related research or services preferred

· Familiarity and comfort working with people who use and inject drugs

· Experience working in an ethnically, culturally, and racially diverse environment preferred

· Bilingual (English and Spanish)
