Research Assistant - Chemistry

The Opportunity:

Externa Biosciences is looking to hire a driven Research Associate to join our Chemistry team. In this role, you will play a crucial role in the development and analysis of new therapeutic materials. Your responsibilities will include but not limited to preparing samples, conducting HPLC and LC-MS analysis of small molecules, peptides and nucleic acid oligomers, supporting a highly functional and emerging therapeutic research and development. 

Responsibilities:

  • Design and execute various chemical reactions, and their analysis throughout various projects at Externa Biosciences, supporting the development of novel high-value materials. 
  • Operate various analytical instruments, ensuring their proper maintenance and calibration, including but not limited to HPLC, and LC-MS. Help manage and coordinate instrument and equipment maintenance as necessary. Help perform regular calibration and QA/QC checks on instrumentation and equipment. 
  • Maintain accurate records of analytical procedures, results, and documentation and provide reports and summaries on completed tests and next steps. Review, revise, and write SOPs surrounding experiments, tests and other procedures. 
  • Assist in the management, coordination, and procurement of necessary laboratory supplies, including chemicals, equipment, consumables, maintaining inventory of material required for performing job tasks. 

Qualifications:

  • B.S. or higher in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related majors, with 1-2 years practical, experimental and/or analytical experience, including experience with analytical instrumentation like HPLC, LC-MS etc.
  • Hands-on laboratory skills, either in an academic or industrial environment with a fundamental knowledge of organic and analytical chemistry.
  • Previous experience with peptides and/or nucleic acids is a plus.
  • Passion and curiosity for science and a good understanding of laboratory operations, including instrumentation, materials, and safety regulations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willing to learn new skills as needed to help the team be as successful as it can be.
