Purchasing Manager

Under guidance of the Vice President of Operations, the Purchasing Manager is responsible for all purchasing related duties within the company. Works with team members, management and vendors/suppliers to ensure best pricing, best delivery dates and best quality for material(s) needed to complete jobs.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  1. Provide strategic direction for purchasing department including developing metrics for gauging proper inventory levels.
  2. Research and evaluate suppliers based on price, quality, selection, service, support, availability, reliability, production and distribution capabilities, and the supplier's reputation and history.
  3. Negotiate, renegotiate, and administer contracts with suppliers, vendors, and other representatives.
  4. Manage obsolete and slow-moving stock to help offset losses.
  5. Assist in developing a more effective invoicing and collecting process.
  6. Requests quotes from vendors/suppliers for material.
  7. Leads periodic cycle counts and annual physical inventory.
  8. Places purchase orders as needed.
  9. Tracks orders already placed.
  10. Verifies costs when invoices are received and resolves discrepancies if necessary.
  11. Sets up blanket purchase orders.
  12. Sets up vendor managed inventory (VMI) systems.
  13. Supervise and provide feedback to Purchasing Assistant and Building Custodian.
  14. Manage company cell phone contract and distribution of cell phones to employees.
  15. Performs ISO audits twice a year.
  16. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:


Education:

Associates degree in a related field or equivalent experience. Bachelor's degree preferred.

Experience:

3-5 years of purchasing experience required.

Necessary Skills:


  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent communicator with the ability to work with a wide variety of personalities, education levels, and work experiences.
  • Computer skills on a variety of office software packages.

Other Requirements:

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must have the ability to communicate information in speaking and writing so
others will understand.
• Must be able to see details at close range.
• Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
• Must be able to routinely move throughout the office area to assist customers and
coworkers.
