THE POSITION:

We are seeking a Purchasing Specialist to play the pivotal role of managing all aspects of the plants and materials used in our landscape projects, from procurement to plant care to project close out. This person is a horticultural whiz and is familiar with landscaping materials like stone and irrigation supplies. They are organized, have a keen eye for detail, and thrive in a team-based, communication-heavy environment. This person will split their time between computer/desk work and outdoor duties.


This is a full-time position, paying $21/hour with weekly pay. We offer paid vacation and holidays; medical, dental, vision, and life insurance; matching 401k retirement savings; discounts at the Garden Center; and work-life balance. Advancement opportunities available as we continue to grow.


RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Source and order landscape project materials: plants, sod, stone, irrigation and drainage supplies, etc.
  • Maintain inventory of regularly used landscape supplies
  • Work with in-house landscape designers and clients to determine material substitutions
  • Manage offloading vendor deliveries and receiving material
  • Inspect incoming shipments to ensure quality and accuracy, and address any discrepancies or issues promptly
  • Manage care of plants in holding area to maintain retail-level quality: watering, fertilizing, repotting, irrigation, etc.
  • Stage and tag materials associated with upcoming projects in holding area
  • Maintain product pricing and update as necessary
  • Assist Accounting Manager with month-end close procedures for inventory, production metrics, and purchasing and receiving paperwork
  • Support the Landscape Project Managers and work as a team with other departments, including Landscape Sales, Lawn Maintenance, and the Garden Center
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Valid driver’s license with no major MVR infractions
  • Relevant experience or Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Horticulture, or related field
  • Strong plant/botanical taxonomy knowledge and familiarity with landscape project materials
  • Proficiency in Google Drive, Docs, and Sheets
  • Strong communication and customer service skills; bilingual (Spanish and English) a plus
  • Organized and detail-oriented nature
  • Willingness to be flexible and multitask, handling multiple projects at once
  • Positive and energetic demeanor and go-getter/driven attitude
  • Ability to perform physical work in outdoor conditions (both hot and cold) and lift 50+ lbs
  • Ability to safely run a skid steer loader (or willingness to be trained)
