Project TEACH Co-Coordinator

Job Description
Hours: M-F 9:00 to 5:00 may require occasional evenings, weekends, and late nights.Department: EducationSupervisor: Director of HIV & Prevention EducationFull-Time, 40 hours per week; non-exempt.

Philadelphia FIGHT is an AIDS Service Organization that recently became a Federally Qualified Health Canter (FQHC). Our goal is to end the AIDS epidemic within the lifetime of people living with HIV now. This position is in FIGHT's Education Department, which offers a wide range of educational, psychosocial, and risk-reduction programming for youth and adults living with HIV and those at high risk.


The Project TEACH Co-Coordinator will share responsibility for the coordination and facilitation of Philadelphia FIGHT's signature education program for people living with HIV, Project TEACH, and its ancillary programs. Projects TEACH Outside is an 8 week class that is taught 4 times per year, and covers a wide range of treatment, advocacy, and psychosocial topics.


The Project TEACH Co-Coordinator is also responsible for supporting both the monthly TEACH alumni programming for graduates of Project TEACH and the coordination of the Community Cookout annually.


The Project TEACH Co-Coordinator represents Philadelphia FIGHT both on site and in the community, in a courteous, efficient manner that reflects the high level of integrity and customer service mandated by Philadelphia FIGHT.


Job Responsibilities

Coordination and Instruction of Project TEACH Outside and other TEACH Programs

  1. Assists in reviewing and updating curriculum to meet the needs of the community served and to reflect emerging research in HIV/AIDS
  2. Acts as a lead instructor for 2 day or evening cycles of Project TEACH each year
  3. Acts as a co-instructor for 2 day or evening cycles of Project TEACH each year
  4. Supports recruitment of students from referral sources, including local AIDS Service Organizations, hospital outpatient clinics, drug and alcohol treatment programs and others.
  5. Coordinates student interviews and the enrollment process.
  6. Supports the production of materials for class
  7. Maintains knowledge of the latest best practices around HIV treatment and care as well as the latest HIV activism locally, nationally, and internationally
  8. Helps plan and coordinate program graduations
  9. Provides ongoing one on one supportive services to students on an as-needed basis, including but not limited to, writing letters of reference, being a legal or other advocate, and communicating with parole officers, case managers, housing managers, or mental health providers
  10. Coordinates retention activities, including bi-weekly phone calls, and service referrals
  11. Supports engagement of graduates in ongoing activities and educational opportunities

Record Keeping

  1. Maintain files for applications submitted

Coordination of Project TEACH Alumni Programming

  1. Supports the Project TEACH Lead Coordinator with monthly TEACH Alumni group meetings by coordinating the programing for of 4 of the 10 Alumni events per year, including holiday parties, field trips, and other social activities and events
  2. Develops and implement new programming to engage active alumni and re-engage inactive alumni
  3. Schedules speakers and maintain a calendar of group meetings
  4. Provides TEACH Alumni with updated information on HIV treatment and prevention and HIV activism
  5. Maintains TEACH Alumni database and manage communication with TEACH Alumni through an email listserv, social media and periodic mailings as needed

Other Duties

  1. Attends TEACH department, Education department, and other FIGHT program meetings as appropriate
  2. Attends all required AACO trainings
  3. Supports the Project TEACH Lead Coordinator with the annual Community Cookout each summer
  4. Attends AIDS Education Month planning meetings as assigned
  5. Other administrative tasks assigned by the Director of HIV and Prevention Education that are consistent with the responsibilities of this position
Qualifications
  1. High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree in related field (social work, psychology, sociology, behavioral health, etc.) preferred
  2. 2 -5 years working in the field of HIV treatment, prevention, and outreach
  3. A minimum of 3 years working with low-income, high-risk populations
  4. Excellent writing and deductive reasoning skills
  5. Excellent communications, interpersonal skills and collaborative skills
  6. Flexible, self-motivated, organized, able to work well under pressure
  7. Demonstrate flexibility in working conditions and work hours, including evenings and weekends
  8. Computer literacy required
  9. Knowledge of Spanish desirable

Physical Demands:

  1. Ability to continuously stand or walk
  2. Ability to bend, climb stairs and lift frequently
  3. Ability to lift up to 10 pounds frequently
  4. Ability to squat occasionally

Work Environment:

  1. Works in an office environment
  2. Occasional travel to locations around the city
  3. Evening, and weekend hours may be required at times, possibly at other locations
