Technical Leader – Machine Learning

About CoVar

CoVar is a small AI/ML R&D software company in Durham, NC, that uses artificial intelligence to solve problems that matter. We develop AI/ML software tools to help the DoD detect enemies and threats, help biomedical researchers find new cures for diseases, and help monitor machinery to prevent injuries and environmental catastrophes. We are passionate engineers, dedicated to pushing the bounds of what AI/ML can do in the real world. We partner and collaborate closely with several premier government R&D agencies (e.g. DoD, DARPA, NIH) and commercial partners to develop and deliver state-of-the-art AI/ML algorithms and end-to-end software products.

About this position

In this position, you will collaborate closely with AI/ML researchers and software engineers to lead several projects, managing the entire lifecycle from defining requirements through system design, hands-on software development, testing, and deployment. You will meet regularly with customers, collaborators, and other external stakeholders to provide progress reports, solicit feedback, and review high-level project goals. You will have the opportunity to leverage your technical expertise and project management skills to successfully execute on exciting AI/ML projects and identify and win new funding opportunities to further grow the business.

Minimum qualifications

  • B.S. in CS, engineering, math, or related field plus 7 years of experience, or advanced degree in relevant field plus 3 years of experience. At least two years of project leadership experience
  • Exceptional project management skills with a record of successfully leading complex projects and delivering results on time with a high degree of customer satisfaction. Experience coordinating and supporting engineers to meet project goals
  • Proficient in Python with experience in scientific computing (NumPy, etc.), Machine Learning and Deep Learning
  • Experience with software development processes, including version control, documentation, code review, and testing
  • Customer-service oriented; excellent written and spoken technical communication skills
  • Ability to work in Durham, NC (relocation assistance available)
  • Eligibility for US security clearance
