PURPOSE OF POSITION
To develop, supervise and coordinate the successful completion of all volunteer department activities and processes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Listed below is an outline of the major duties and responsibilities that will be required. Administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary to perform the assigned duties under the supervision of the Volunteer Manager are delegated to this position.

The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or is a logical assignment to the position.
DUTIES
- Recruits Hospice volunteers.
- Reviews applications, interviews, screens, and trains incoming volunteers.
- Supervises and coordinates assignments for volunteers by working with Hospice staff to identify patient and family needs for volunteer services.
- Makes regular contacts with volunteers, schedules volunteer meeting/in-services and social events as appropriate.
- Maintains updated files on active volunteers.
- Assures prompt submission of volunteer hour documentation. Prepares summary reports of volunteer hours and other reports as assigned or requested and submits to Volunteer Manager).
- Evaluates volunteer performance annually and as otherwise needed. Makes recommendations regarding necessary actions to Volunteer Manager.
- Submits to Volunteer Manager, in a timely manner, information on Volunteer Department activities that are to be included in the monthly newsletter.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- General
- Participates in community activities to promote understanding and utilization of Hospice’s services.
- Assists with fundraising programs.
- Attends Department Head meetings weekly or as scheduled.
- Serves as a member of the Quality Assurance Performance Improvement Committee.
- Serves on Safety and Policies & Procedures committees as appropriate.
- Annually reviews department policies and procedures, manuals, job descriptions, etc., and recommends appropriate changes to Volunteer Manager.
- Works with Volunteer Manager to develop and maintain departmental budget.
- Functions independently and demonstrates personal integrity, flexibility and the ability to work effectively with other personnel under varying circumstances.
- Has knowledge of and follow Hospice policies and procedures.
- Maintains a professional appearance.
- Displays a consistent positive attitude.
- Demonstrate Values of Hospice: PROFESSIONALISM * RESPECT * NURTURANCE * COMMUNICATION * CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
- Adheres to Hospice of El Paso Mission and Value Statement.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
2. Communication
- Establishes and maintains effective communication and a cooperative manner with patient/family members, physicians, professionals and support staff working in hospitals, nursing facilities, foster homes, and other related facilities as required by position.
- Establishes and maintains a cooperative manner and effective communication, both verbally and in writing, with volunteers and all levels of Hospice staff.

- Complies with HIPAA standards by abiding with the minimum necessary Protected Health Information to perform job responsibilities.
3. Professional Development
- Attends and participates in in-service education classes and on-the-job training programs as scheduled.
- Attends conferences and workshops as approved.
- Review professional literature on an ongoing basis to maintain knowledge and competency in current and developing volunteer issues.
- Involved in community/civic health matters/projects.
- Attends ethics and compliance training and maintain compliance with CCP.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education and Experience
- High school diploma.
- 5 years experience in volunteer work including administration (paid or unpaid) teaching, supervisor, and personnel management.
- Community involvement essential.
2. Other
- Strong presentation and oral skills.
- Able to fully read, write, and speak the English language.
- Valid Texas Drivers License and auto liability insurance as required by the state of Texas.
- Possess personal vehicle available during working hours and access to telephone at home.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Works in a well-lighted ventilated office area.
- Subject to frequent interruptions.
- Involved with physicians, patients, family members, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions/circumstances.
- May be subjected to communicable diseases brought into the work environment by the field personnel.
- Subject to hostile and emotionally upset patients, family members, etc. Demonstrate emotional stability in dealing with aspects of death and dying.
- May be required to work beyond normal working hours, weekends, holidays, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
- Exposure level: Category III- Tasks/activities do not entail predictable or unpredictable exposure to blood or other body fluids to which universal precautions apply.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Physically fit and able to work in a variety of settings and locations, primarily in well lighted/ventilated office area.
- Sit, bend, lift, and move intermittently during working hours.
- Lift and move records and related supplies, not generally to exceed 25 lbs.
- Able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
- Possess sight/hearing senses or uses prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately, so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
