Carrier Sales Manager

Irvine, CA

This role is remote OR onsite.

As a Carrier Sales Manager, you will play a pivotal role in our transportation and logistics operations. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with carrier partners, negotiating rates, and ensuring optimal carrier performance. Your goal is to enhance our carrier network, improve service levels, and achieve cost efficiencies to meet the company's logistics needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Carrier Relationship Management:
    • Develop and nurture strong relationships with existing carrier partners.
    • Identify and onboard new carrier partners to expand the carrier network.
    • Conduct regular performance reviews and maintain open communication channels with carriers.
  • Rate Negotiation and Contract Management:
    • Negotiate competitive rates and service agreements with carriers.
    • Manage contracts and ensure compliance with terms and conditions.
    • Monitor market trends to stay competitive and adjust rates as necessary.
  • Performance Monitoring and Improvement:
    • Track carrier performance metrics, including on-time delivery, capacity utilization, and service quality.
    • Implement performance improvement plans for underperforming carriers.
    • Develop and execute strategies to optimize carrier performance and efficiency.
  • Collaboration and Coordination:
    • Work closely with the operations team to ensure smooth and efficient logistics operations.
    • Coordinate with the sales team to align carrier capacity with customer demand.
    • Facilitate effective communication between carriers and internal stakeholders.
  • Market Analysis and Strategy:
    • Conduct market research to identify opportunities and challenges in the transportation sector.
    • Develop and implement strategies to enhance the carrier network and service offerings.
    • Stay informed about industry trends, regulations, and best practices.
  • Reporting and Documentation:
    • Maintain accurate records of carrier agreements, rates, and performance data.
    • Prepare and present regular reports on carrier performance and market conditions to senior management.
    • Ensure all carrier-related documentation is up-to-date and compliant with company policies.

Experience:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field. Advanced degree is a plus.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in carrier sales, transportation, or logistics management.
    • Proven track record of successful rate negotiation and carrier relationship management.
  • Skills:
    • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
    • Proficiency in transportation management systems (TMS) and other logistics software.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Willingness to travel as needed to meet with carrier partners and attend industry events.
    • Understanding of transportation regulations and compliance requirements.

Travel/Unique Working Hours:

  • This position may require occasional travel to various locations to support client meetings, attend conferences, and collaborate with team members, ensuring a dynamic work experience.
  • This position may require working overtime, evenings, or weekends.
