Job DescriptionJob Description

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Case Manager is responsible for assisting youth and their parents to gain the skills and support necessary to adjust to the US educational system.
  • The Case Manager will work to help families overcome barriers through case management services that will include both student- and parent-focused activities.
  • The Case Manager will coordinate with USCRI North Carolina staff as well as partner agencies and public school systems (predominately Wake County Public School System) to assist with school enrollments, establish connections between families and volunteers, facilitate meetings between parents and teachers/school social workers and interpreters, capacity development for schools, provide information to families on educational expectations, encourage deeper family engagement and integration into the community, provide cross-cultural information, and identify and address concerns and challenges as they arise.
  • The Case Manager will conduct initial intake and assessment, refer clients to needed services to assist them in moving towards positive educational development, orient new families to their new community, and ensure successful transitions in the resettlement process.
  • Additionally, the Case Manager will have the responsibility to prepare and maintain written case records, reports, and forms, perform case follow-up and closing, and perform other administrative tasks as required.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge of Afghan culture and language is a requirement for this position. Frasi, Dari, Pashtu.
  • Bachelor’s degree in international relations, Social Work, Education, Business, or a related field is required with two years of relevant experience.
  • Prior experience working with refugee and immigrant youth is strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience with public school systems, primarily in Wake County, is strongly preferred.
  • Bilingual/multilingual ability strongly preferred, particularly in Arabic, Swahili, Spanish, or Dari/Farsi. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience with social services provision or refugee resettlement is preferred.
  • The candidate must have dedication to the human rights of refugees, immigrants, asylum seekers, and displaced people.
  • The candidate must have a valid Driver’s License, insurance, clean driving record, and personal transportation.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

  • Satisfactory Completion of USCRI’s Orientation and Training.
  • Satisfactory completion of annual mandatory training; and
  • Complete additional training and job duties as identified by supervisor(s), program director or Human Resources

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and audio acuity.
  • Use of repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting, and sustained visual and mental applications and demands.
  • Occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds), bending, pulling, and carrying.
