About the Director Healthcare Services position:
The Director of Healthcare Services is responsible for providing programs and services to support learning initiatives for nursing education and compliance with regulatory requirements. Develop, implement and manage programs designed to prepare staff for regulatory surveys, monitor and evaluate readiness to pass regulatory surveys, and provide staff assistance for corrective measures. Work with leaders to evaluate recruitment and talent management systems and processes, and to identify, develop and implement improvements to support hiring and retention of high qualify nursing staff.

Our unique 5 STARS service:

  • Conduct an annual Mock Survey of systems throughout Buckner's clinical levels of care including the Maintenance Directors for Life Safety Code.
  • Develop and facilitate nursing education for licensed nursing staff to meet re-licensure and regulatory compliance.
  • Provide oversight for staff education as required by accreditation governing entities. Complete annual audits and prepare required paperwork along with the assistance of the Buckner Corporate office staff.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Process Improvement and Compliance to assure compliance with healthcare regulations, standards of integrity, systems and processes, and operational excellence practices and with the Office of the General Counsel in consulting on clinical practices and confidential chart reviews in support of potential legal actions.
  • Provide formal dispute resolution and associated chart reviews as related to regulatory surveys as determined by Executive Directors and vice President of Operations.
  • Provide additional quality reviews in addition to the annual reviews as required.
  • Provide guidance and coordination to nursing for all Buckner communities related to electronic medical records.
  • Provide guidance and coordination to the Quality and Compliance teams at each community with the goal of making sure that each community has a viable Quality Assurance program and Risk Management program. Work with communities and with the Vice President of Operations to develop core requirements for these programs.
  • With input from Buckner community staff, coordinate a review of all nursing policies and procedures.
  • Develop resident-centered policies and processes to reflect the BRS core anchors in all Healthcare areas assigned.
  • Work with Buckner Executive Directors, Administrators, Directors of Nursing, and Assisted Living Directors to develop, implement, and maintain hospitality/customer service standards for nursing.
  • Attend meetings with Buckner staff as requested at various Buckner locations.
  • Oversee development, implementation, and review of Compliance program and Medicare compliance.
  • Work with Nursing Leaders and Human Resources to review the current nursing evaluation process, including evaluation forms, and make recommendations for improvements to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Effectively develop and maintain relationships with employees, agencies, donors and other entities. Cultivate and monitor relationships with outside service providers, consultants, agencies and organizations to develop relationships to enhance the delivery of services to clients.
  • Liaison to community; speak in public on behalf of Buckner. Represent Buckner at meetings, conventions, and seminars. Serve on internal and external committees as required.
  • Maintain compliance with all Buckner policies, procedures and requirements. Maintain compliance with all state and federal laws and regulatory requirements.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and training as required. Facilitate meetings and training as required.
  • Develop emerging leaders for Buckner Retirement Services staff through professional growth and development.
  • Assist, guide and support supervisors with employee selection, review, evaluation and terminations.
  • Work successfully as part of a team; responsible for developing then maintaining strong working relationships with coworkers.

  • Responsible for supporting and representing Buckner at special events, activities and other assigned functions.
  • Travel as needed to monitor, assess and help develop programs.
  • Perform general office tasks as required. Accurately prepare and proofread letters, memos, spreadsheets and other correspondence daily. Review and process mail and other correspondence daily. Complete accurate and timely documentation. Take and appropriately handle phone calls daily.
  • Timely and accurately respond to requests from various departments, facilities, and/or entities.
  • Perform special assignments, projects, and other duties as required.

As a 5 STARS associate, you:

  • Will have in-depth understanding of a specialized, comprehensive field of knowledge. Involves ability to define problems, draw conclusions and make decisions dealing with abstract variables.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field of study, such as Health Care Administration required; Master's Degree preferred.
  • A current Registered Nurse licensure by the Texas State Board of Nursing or a licensed Administrator preferred.
  • Requires a minimum of 5 years prior related experience in a supervisory or leadership capacity in a related field. Requires a minimum of 5 years prior related proven business management experience. Prior related experience in a long-term care organization working with healthcare programs in a supervisory or leadership capacity preferred. Requires experience with budgeting and program planning.
  • Prior related experience working with organizational leaders, facilitating training, and serving on internal compliance committees preferred.
  • Requires proficient working knowledge of general nursing theory and practice including basic knowledge related to nursing, such as drugs, biological, physical, social and medical sciences and their application. Requires working knowledge of infection control, universal precautions and OSHA standards.
  • Requires knowledge of principles and methods involved in the in-service instruction of departmental personnel, in demonstrating techniques and methods of resident-care services, and in the instruction of resident needs.
  • Requires familiarity with medical diagnoses, procedures, and accepted medical treatment patterns. Requires knowledge of procedures and techniques necessary to administer medication and treatment as prescribed by a physician. Requires knowledge of medications and possible side effects.
  • Requires ability to supervise others and hold others accountable for work completed; provide training, development and feedback to staff.
  • Requires ability to effectively manage personnel; requires administrative skills to include but not limited to staff selection, development, motivation, scheduling, and evaluation.
  • Requires proficient conflict management and problem solving skills. Requires proficient working knowledge and experience in conflict management and problem solving.
  • Requires ability to travel to various geographic locations using various modes of transportation with some overnight stays.
  • Requires ability to drive assigned vehicle(s) or personal vehicle, with appropriate state license, following all laws applicable; must provide proof of liability insurance and must be eligible to be insured under Buckner's insurance policy. Requires ability to rent vehicles both domestically and internationally using required documentation. Must be age 21 or older to drive on behalf of Buckner.
