The Sales Manager is responsible for maintaining accounts and establishing new business for the hotel through, lead sources, outside calls, convention bureau, correspondence, and site tours. The Sales Manager will write proposals and contracts, negotiate business deals, and secure profitable business that aligns with the sales and marketing plan.


  • Developing relationships: Cultivating relationships with clients and partners to secure event bookings, group reservations, and business contracts.
  • Negotiating: Negotiating contracts and rates with clients.
  • Analyzing: Monitoring and analyzing sales performance and market trends to identify opportunities for growth.
  • Prospecting for new accounts and maintaining current accounts.
  • Solicits business through both outside and inside calls.
  • Conducting hotel site inspections with clients.
  • Working closely with other hotel departments to ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Enforcing sales department and company policies and procedures.
  • Maintains orderly sales files and trace system.
  • Meets monthly sales goals in room nights, revenue and sales calls.
  • Understands competition in detail to include number of rooms, square footage of meeting space, number of meeting rooms, quality of décor, rate structure, competing sales manager, flag support, any expansion/renovation, etc.
  • After execution of tentative contracts, follow up accounts to make every effort for converting the contract to a definite piece of business.
  • Deal with internal/departmental and customer problems quickly, efficiently and courteously. It is of the utmost importance to maintain client confidence and goodwill.
  • Serve on hotel committees representing the sales department as requested.
  • Review difficult / out of the ordinary rate, arrival patterns and room night questions with the Director of Sales and/ or Marketing.
  • Performs in a professional manner all assigned administrative duties and projects assigned by the Director of Sales and/or Marketing.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • (1-2) years of hotel sales experience
  • Account management and new business development
  • Contract writing and negotiation skills
  • Relationship building skills
  • Must possess computer skills, including, but not limited to, sales systems, property management systems and Microsoft Word, and Excel
  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace.
  • Requires effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
