Department/ Program: Programs - HIV Prevention, Testing, and SUD
Grant Name: Ending HIV Epidemic, Priority Populations, People Who Use Substances and/or Inject Drugs (PWID)
Classification: Hourly. This is a grant-funded, full-time, benefited position. From Feb 2023 to Feb 2024. Employment is provided by The Wall Las Memorias in contact with Heluna and LACDPH.

Hours: Full-Time (40 hours a week) M-F 9am-6pm (some nights and weekends will be required)
Objective: To conduct community outreach, execute and implement the scope of work for Ending the HIV Epidemic grant and its objectives by identifying interventions and tactics for people who use substances and/or inject drugs within the HIV Pos Community.
Opportunity: To work for a highly acclaimed organization which constructed the nation’s only publicly funded AIDS monument and utilizes a community based organizing model to address social justice issues and providing health education and wellness prevention programs such as substance abuse, mental health, Hepatitis C and HIV/AIDS.
Mission Statement: The Wall-Las Memorias Project is a community health and wellness organization dedicated to serving Latino, LGBT and other underserved populations through advocacy, education and building the next generation of leadership.
Description: Community Organizer reports to the Program Manager for this grant. Responsible conducting community outreach and implementing the scope of work for Ending the HIV Epidemic grant and its objectives by identifying and implementing interventions and tactics for people who use substances and/or inject drugs within the HIV Pos Community. Responsible for providing HIV testing and counseling, and provide referrals and linkages to adequate services, including Partner Services and Biomedical Prevention. Responsible for conducting all community outreach and education and organizing and implementation of activities. Assist team in group facilitation and engagement. Assist the implementation of all prevention, risk reduction interventions and program. Responsible for assisting on daily operations including implementation of approved work plans. Responsible for assisting and informing PC about activities completed for monthly reports and recordkeeping; and maintaining compliance with data entry. Participate in the assessment, capacity, planning, implementation, advocacy, and evaluation process of assigned programs. Engage and organize community members, businesses, and community; implement evidence-based strategies and prevention concepts for addressing community problems and contributing factors.
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, Program Management, Social worker, Case Management, or related field. (Preferred)
  • Two (2) years of related work experience prior to employment.
  • Knowledge of LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender) issues affecting the community.
  • Organized and ability to pay attention to the minute details of a project or task.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and take responsibility for assignments with deadlines.
  • Excellent communication verbal, written and public speaking skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and good judgment.
  • Good understanding of the wellness and healthcare needs of people of color.
  • Knowledge, sensitivity, and experience to work well with diverse populations and stakeholders.
  • Knowledgeable in developing, implementing, and/or evaluating community-based environmental prevention programs/services.
  • Knowledge in engaging and/or organizing community members, businesses, and community leaders in the implementation/adoption of a community and/or population-based effort
  • Ability to implement evidence-based strategies and prevention concepts.
  • Competency to work with the various ethnic/cultural groups in the target area/community.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English
