Position Overview:

This position is responsible for performing procurement activities across multiple categories, including ingredients, packaging, and supplies used in our food production facilities. This position is based in-office five days a week at our Headquarters in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Purchasing Manager reports directly to the Head of Procurement for Promise Confections.


Job Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Locate vendors of materials, equipment, or supplies, and interview them to determine product availability and terms of sales
  • Develop, lead, and execute purchasing strategies, craft negotiations, and close deals with optimal terms
  • Generate and/or review purchaseorder claims and contracts in conformance to company policy
  • Maintain records of goods ordered and received
  • Maintain approved suppliers and approved supplier’s compliance to contract agreements
  • Follow defined procedure for approval of new suppliers for packaging and ingredients
  • Supervise Purchasing department staff
  • Lead and collaborate within the leadership team
  • Comply with all company rules and regulations
  • Report any regulatory, safety, and food safety issues immediately
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Email, Teams, etc.).
  • Experience working with ERP and/or inventory management systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to read and speak English fluently.
  • Ability to communicate issues effectively with procurement employees and management.
  • Proficiency in basic mathematics, including algebra, and the ability to perform measurement conversions of percentages, discounts, and values.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to make timely, efficient decisions.
  • Capacity to manage multiple tasks and situations simultaneously.
  • College Degree (preferred)
  • Minimum two years of experience as a purchasing manage or strong procurement assistant.
