About UMOM New Day Centers: Founded in 1964, UMOM is Arizona's largest provider of services for families experiencing homelessness. Our mission is to restore hope, rebuild lives, and end homelessness. With an annual operating budget of $22 million dollars, UMOM provides shelter, supportive services, and housing programs to families and single women experiencing homelessness in Maricopa County. UMOM serves over 15,000 unique individuals across all our services annually, including families receiving support at the Family Housing Hub.


Position Description: The Logistics Associate position focuses on the daily operations of the Logistics Department, including but not limited to scheduling, conducting pick-ups and/or deliveries, receiving and sorting donations, inventory control, preparing client requests, donor services, new employee training, and general leadership within the Logistics Team. The Logistics Associate reports to the Director of Logistics and Donations daily to ensure thorough communication about workflow, project status updates, team challenges, and inventory needs.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Skilled work

  • Participates in all aspects of donation reception and distribution, organization, and repair/cleaning, including:
    • Schedules and picks up donations from businesses and private residences
    • Assigns daily truck routing based on familiarity with the Phoenix-metro area
    • Receives and processes, fulfills, loads, and delivers orders (including furniture) to homes and third-party organizations
  • Inspects, accurately counts, and documents intake and quantities of items
  • Cleans and repairs or coordinates the repair of donation items to ensure items meet the standards set for distribution to clients.
  • Sorts and stocks items in an organized and systematic way
  • Participates in all aspects of donation documentation, inventory, and reporting, including:
    • Captures and documents donor information and provides receipts
    • Maintains inventory and reviews data, ensures accuracy
    • Conducts and/or oversee weekly cycle counts
    • Reports inventory shortages and/or needs based on UMOM forecasting
  • Maintains cleanliness, safety, organization of all areas of the Logistics Department, including but not limited to warehouse space, office area, UMOM fleet vehicles, parking lot and common areas, etc.
    • Conducts vehicle and fleet inspections, recognizing and reporting any needed services repairs
    • Ensures all UMOM work areas are free of trash and hazards
    • Cleans and/or coordinates the cleaning of and ensures all equipment is in proper working condition
    • Assures the housekeeping of work areas are scheduled and completed
  • Operates vehicles and equipment, such as trucks, vans, forklifts, pallet-jacks, and push-dollies, to safely move and store items within a warehouse setting and out in the community
  • Supports UMOM events and special projects, as needed

Interacts with clients and staff to determine donation and distribution needs.

  • Assists in training clients and leading classes as part of the Warehouse Training Program.
  • Monitors and evaluates client progress throughout the training program, providing constructive feedback and additional support to help clients achieve their training goals and improve their job readiness.
  • Cultivates a supportive and understanding environment by recognizing and responding to the diverse needs of clients, fostering confidence and personal growth throughout their training journey.

Leadership and Collaboration

  • Assists with the support and training of new employees and current staff, on all the above Skilled Work in addition to standards, policies, and procedures of the Logistics Department and UMOM New Day Centers
  • Provides exceptional customer service and a positive experience when interacting with any of the following: donors, clients, UMOM coworkers, and community members.
  • Promotes and demonstrates the UMOM mission and core values.
  • Leads by example, demonstrating warehouse safety and procedural best practices.
  • Works with Logistics team leadership on special projects and to ensure efficient and effective processes for the Logistics Team
  • Assists the Logistics team leadership in providing feedback and coaching to Logistics Team members
  • Notifies the Logistics team leadership of safety issues related to work areas, equipment, vehicles, and employees (including unsafe work habits)
  • Participates in monthly trainings for safety and operations and completes all required UMOM training.
  • Serves as floor supervisor in the absence of higher ranking Logistics team leadership.
  • Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively to provide quality and seamless customer service

Qualification and Competency Requirements:

Experience and Education

  • High School diploma/GED preferred
  • Ability to drive a 16' to 26' box truck, pickup truck with trailer attached, and use material handling equipment such as pallet jack, forklift, push carts, etc.
  • Forklift operation experience preferred
  • Customer service experience preferred

Computer Skills:

  • Familiarity with, or ability to learn, basic applications such as Microsoft Word and Outlook for email communication and documentation responsibilities

Physical Demands The physical demands and working conditions described here are representative, but not exhaustive, of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • This position is very active and requires remaining in a stationary position and/or moving for a majority of the workday. The person in this position frequently operates equipment, ascends/descends stairs, and positions self to accomplish essential tasks, bending, kneeling, and lifting all day. The employee must frequently move and transport items up to 75 pounds, most of the time with a team member. The duties of this job require regular exposure to outside weather conditions and loud noises.
  • Ability to regularly lift 75 pounds and adhere to safe lifting practices (team lift, use of tools and equipment)

Compliance

  • Valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card or the ability to obtain one
  • Valid AZ Driver's License and a driving record that falls within UMOM's policy
  • 50/100 level of car insurance coverage (mileage reimbursement available)
  • Forklift certified or the ability to be certified within 90 days of start date

Work Schedule:

This position works 5 days a week (Monday - Friday or Tuesday - Saturday) with 2 consecutive days off. Typical shift hours are 8am - 4pm, with flexibility to work occasional nights based on the needs of the position and the organization.
