About This Role

In this role, you will be responsible for caring for research animals (rodents) within our three vivaria. The welfare of our research animals is critical to Biogen’s mission to produce world class research on behalf of our patients. This care includes careful observations and documentation to maintain compliance. Our team also includes our training and technical staff. Those interested in expanding technical capabilities will have technical development opportunities.

What You’ll Do

  • Responsible for daily health observations, recording and communicating abnormalities to the veterinary team and researchers, and following up with basic clinical care
  • Perform husbandry duties for mice and rats
  • Receive and house animals
  • Maintain all vivarium spaces, placing work orders when necessary
  • Perform general housekeeping and adhere to all safety procedures
  • Support the team with other duties as necessary
Qualifications

Who You Are

The ideal candidate is passionate about animal care and welfare, with great attention to detail, and strong communication skills. We are looking for someone who cares about what they do and wants to continue to learn and grow.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 1 year work experience
  • Good basic computer skills, including MS Outlook, MS Word, and MS Excel
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills; ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to regularly lift/push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
  • ALAT certification (required within 1 year of hire)

Regular work schedule is 40 hours/ week in addition to holidays and weekends on a rotating basis.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with post surgical observations
  • Experience with basic rodent dosing
