Overview:

We are seeking a talented business manager with a well-rounded background in sales/marketing, business development, engineering and operations to assume P/L responsibility for one of our successful and growing business units (Energy I/O products). This newly created position will drive the organic growth, diversification and long-term competitiveness of this very stable business unit: currently at $55MM; (100+ employees). This is a high visibility role reporting to the Group General Manager

Scope:

The General Manager (“GM”) will have full P/L responsibility for this business unit, which is a global recognized provider of in a diversified set of markets such as Oil & Gas, LNG, Marine, Geophysical & Subsea, Power Generation, Mining, Data Communications, and Electric Vehicle Charging Applications. Focusing on providing the highest quality products through the most advanced manufacturing technologies and processes.

This strategic role will develop short and long range plans, including objectives, strategies and roadmaps for this ‘standards- based’ business to maximize market potential, sales volume and profit margin. The GM will interact and collaborate extensively with global cross-functional teams in R&D, engineering, sales, marketing, manufacturing and customer support, as well as the global supply chain, to implement strategies which will achieve diversification in product platforms, markets, customers, supply chain and the geographic scope of the business.

The GM will manage all aspects of developing and implementing strategies for new business opportunities and diversification in both existing and new markets, customers and geographies. This will include participation in the identification and conceptual design of new products and capabilities to achieve the business’s financial objectives, and will require active involvement with internal cross-functional groups: R&D, marketing, sales/business development and engineering.

As a member of the management team, this GM will provide insight and actively participate in setting the overall direction and strategy of the Division and Group based on active participation in industry standards organizations and a solid understanding of technology trends, the marketplace, supply chain and the voice of the customer for this business

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Organizes and directs the Business Unit to achieve budgeted order, revenue and operating income objectives.
  • Develops strategic business plans to ensure product call-out, design-in, continuous growth and profitability
  • Annually assembles all data required to produce an annual operating budget and 3 year strategic plan for the business unit.
  • Prepares monthly pipeline updates for distribution to the VP/GM and other members of the management team, as well as managers of relevant and appropriate cross-functional teams (R&D, Engineering, Manufacturing, Sales, Marketing).
  • Participates in the decision making process in all matters before the Management Team.
  • Participates in the development and the presentation of the monthly Operational Review.
  • Visits key customers on a regular basis.
  • Actively participates industry standards organizations and influences key decisions which will directly impact the long term competitiveness and success of the business unit.

Required Education and Skills:

  • B.S. degree required (engineering discipline is strongly preferred); MBA is desirable.
  • 10+ years with significant experience and quantifiable track record of success in managing the P/L for a product platform or small business unit; experience managing P/L is required.
  • Strategic marketing, product marketing management, business development, product line management or business unit management experience within the connector/interconnect industry is strongly preferred; experience within the electronics industry is acceptable.
  • Working knowledge of Energy I/O products and their related markets and customer base in one or more of the following is ideal: internet equipment, infrastructure, enterprise networks.
  • Exceptional communication and relationship building skills.
  • Successful track record in developing business and enhancing relationships with global, multi-billion dollar key customers.
  • Strong financial background including a high level of proficiency in Excel and Access, along with other relevant financial software packages.

  • Change Agent who can influence overall global strategies, programs and processes for driving growth of this business unit;
  • Ideal candidate must be an “A player”, a “high potential” performer; strong desire to progress career over next ten years;
  • Exceptional customer-facing and relationship building skills;
  • Comfortable working in a matrixed environment with ability to influence change in thought and behavior across all functional groups
  • Strong technical aptitude combined with exceptional business acumen; ability to communicate effectively with engineering, sales, marketing and manufacturing teams, vendors and customers;
  • Available to travel up to 50% to engineering, manufacturing and key customer locations in North America, Europe, Asia and United Arab Emirates (UAE)
  • Strong diplomacy and relationship building skills with both internal and external groups;
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to communicate effectively with geographically –dispersed and culturally diverse cross functional teams.
  • Capable of providing confident leadership as a member of management team;
  • Effective organization and problem-solving skills.

Amphenol Harsh Environment Solutions Division (AHES)

The Harsh Environment Solutions Division designs, manufactures and markets a broad range of ruggedized interconnect products, including connectors and interconnect systems, printed circuits and printed circuit assemblies and other products.

Engineered with shock and vibration resistance, environmental sealing, durable materials and additional protection built into the connectors or cable assemblies, these products are ideal for both indoor and outdoor applications where systems may be compromised by external factors. Special considerations are a key driver within these designs in order to ensure the safety and performance of these systems.
