Job Title: Community Engagement Coordinator

Department: Community Care & Advocacy

Reports to: Outreach Manager

Salary Range: $18-$20

Schedule: Standard schedule of Tuesday-Saturday 9am to 5:30pm, some nights and weekends required

FLSA Status: hourly, 40 hours

Date: August 9th, 2024


Position Summary: The Community Engagement Coordinator provides resources and education to the community through our Paw Plus Clinics, Kibble Connection and humane education programs including Wagging Tales Teacher-led-Curriculum (TLC), and the Kindness for Paws art show. The Community Engagement Coordinator will work collaboratively with the Outreach Manager while consulting the Community Care & Advocacy Director to help further the goals of community engagement through our outreach programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Cultivate and promote positive relationships with members and partners of the community.
  • Coordinate and facilitate the annual Kindness for PAWS art show
  • Manage day to day operations of the MD SPCA's TLC program
  • Develop and implement recruitment strategy for new teachers for the TLC program
  • Assist in the continual evaluation and improvement of the MD SPCA humane education programs through the enhancements of lesson plans, supplemental materials, presentations, and web resources
  • Deliver educational talks to interested community organizations including schools, scout groups and other audiences
  • Provide resources and information regarding Community Care & Advocacy and shelter programs
  • Plan and execute Paw Plus Clinics in collaboration with staff, volunteers and community partners.
  • Attend and represent the MD SPCA at community events providing resources and education to the community
  • Support the Kibble Connection food pantry operations including receiving donations and disbursing those resources into the community
  • Engage in the community in an impactful way, exploring and listening to the community voices on how we can better serve
  • Proactively contribute to the creation of a positive culture within the team and community
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Experience (minimum 1 year) managing and delivering education programs or similar programs strongly preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to speak to groups of people, including children and the elderly
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and analytical ability
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Must adhere to all guidelines as set forth in the MD SPCA's Employee Handbook
  • Clean driving record with a valid state-issued driver's license
  • Ability to drive large vehicles including vans as needed
  • Must pass a background & fingerprint check
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office - including Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Excel
  • Ability to work outside in extreme temperatures, hot and cold
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule. 45% of the positions time will be working evenings and weekends

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to perform physical duties, including animal handling and occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Extended periods of standing, walking, sitting, bending, stooping, and reaching.
  • This position is regularly exposed to animals, animal waste and potentially hazardous conditions, including the risk of animal bites.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
