Student Engagement Coordinator

Under the supervision of the Executive Director of Whole Child Services and Support, the Student Engagement Coordinator will focus on identifying effective strategies, resources, programs, and partnerships aimed at enhancing opportunities for students to explore their interests, pursue their passions, and engage with the broader community beyond their educational institutions. This role involves collaboration with various stakeholders within and outside the Baltimore City Public School System to assess student interests and school requirements, cultivate opportunities, and implement strategies that promote equity in access and outcomes for students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work in partnership with the Office of Family and Community Engagement and relevant community organizations to catalog and map existing programs and resources that support student enrichment and engagement both during and after school hours.
- Collaborate with schools to identify student interests and connect them with potential partners.
- Conduct a comprehensive district-wide analysis to identify needs, gaps, and priorities in engagement and extracurricular programming, culminating in a detailed report of findings.
- Design and oversee a pilot initiative aimed at expanding extracurricular opportunities for selected clusters of schools with significant needs.
- Create a long-term strategy to enhance student access to developmentally appropriate opportunities that enrich learning and foster community connections.
- Identify and engage potential partners, sponsors, and funders to support these initiatives.
- In collaboration with the Office of Accountability and Achievement, monitor and report on both quantitative and qualitative data related to student engagement and extracurricular activities, linking these to student perceptions of school, attendance, behavior, and academic performance.
- Establish and maintain positive professional relationships with students, families, school administrators, community coordinators, district staff, and external partners as necessary.
- Ensure compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies, adhering to all relevant federal and state laws and professional standards.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in education, social work, humanities, or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
- A valid Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) Advanced Professional Certificate (APC).
- A minimum of three years of experience in a public urban educational system, preferably in Baltimore.
- Experience working directly with children and youth.
- Proven experience in designing and leading student engagement programs.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including the ability to deliver effective presentations and facilitate professional development.
- Strong analytical skills to utilize data for program planning and management.
- Ability to take initiative, manage multiple priorities, work independently, and collaborate effectively as part of a team.
- Demonstrate high standards of integrity, professionalism, and respect for all individuals.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
