Position Summary:

Collaborate in the development, implementation and evaluation of business strategies designed to reduce costs and maximize profitability while ensuring excellence in service quality and safety.

Directs all distribution activities, including: Safety, Shipping, Put away, Replenishment, Receiving, Order selection accuracy, Labor standards, WMS utilization, Slotting, Workforce optimization, P&L accountability, Handling of returned/damaged goods and Inventory management.

Responsible for the efficient and timely delivery of the product to our customers, accomplished through thorough planning and an on-going process of monitoring driver performance, equipment condition and performance, and business volume.

Responsible for counseling all staff members and achieving departmental goals as established by the VP of Operations and Senior Team.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Establish procedures which maximize the efficiency of the operations department and allow the department to function at the highest level of productivity.
  • Solve operational problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where minimal standardization exists. Analyze work-related situations and make decisions in an effective manner.
  • Improve operational strategies and processes based upon knowledge of the food distribution industry.
  • Develop and maintain communications processes and procedures between both shifts
  • Foster good working relationships with our customers and ensure that the distribution center is responding appropriately to their needs.
  • Conduct department meetings with staff.
  • Manage department within budgetary guidelines. Oversee the organizing of the warehouse inventory on a quarterly and annual basis
  • Implement training that meets production demands while enforcing rules in accordance with the conditions of the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Ensure that Team Members have opportunities to develop proper utilization of tools and technology.
  • Foster good working relations with union Team Members and representatives by addressing their concerns.
  • Oversee truck leasing agreement(s).
  • Recruit management and support team members.
  • Consistently engage in Labor Standards per department to ensure accurate reporting.
  • Partner with HR in developing effective safety programs.
  • Review all incident and accident reports; providing root cause analysis.
  • Ensure consistency of safety training, retraining, and disciplinary action across all Operations
  • Lead a zero-incident safety culture.
  • Ensure physical inspection of facilities and equipment are compliant with local, state and OSHA regulations.
  • Support Team Member development by providing information on changing work rules and/or compliance issues.
  • Develop Team Members by leading efforts to implement training and communication processes that promote continuous learning, and personal and professional development.
  • Maintain detailed records of driver pay, equipment maintenance and equipment performance.
  • Review driver logs and paperwork to ensure accuracy and adherence to policy and DOT regulations.
  • Closely monitor equipment to ensure safe operation and minimize breakdowns.
  • Review routing and make the necessary adjustments to ensure optimal efficiency.
  • Verify vendor invoices and complete A/P (accounts payable) vouchers.
  • Monitor trip records and fuel reports for mileage, fuel cost, and fuel economy.
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Five years of related experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
 
  • Excellent managerial and supervisory skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of operations and production management
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Outlook, and MS Excel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Able to stand for extended periods.
    • Knowledge of customer service principles and quality standards.
    • Ability to use a computer, smartphone, business software, and new applications/proprietary software.
    • Ability to perform repetitive lifting of 50 lbs.
    • Be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, reach, bend, squat, and stoop to accomplish the essential job functions.
    • Self-motivated; customer focused.
    • Maintain a current and valid driver’s license.
