Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated CADD Support Technician to provide full-time, on-site support as part of the Defense Health Agency Headquarters’ Engineering Operations team in San Antonio, TX. This role involves organizing and updating building drawings, plans, and master plans while ensuring compliance with standardized naming conventions and technical standards.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist MTF facility managers in organizing and updating building drawings, plans, and master plans.
  • Support and follow DHA-defined file and technical standardized naming conventions.
  • Upload and maintain 100% Issued For Construction (IFC) design documents and red-lined As-Built or final Record Drawing construction documents in the MARS database.
  • Produce Record Drawings by updating 100% IFC files with red-lined As-Built drawing submissions.
  • Perform remote updates for changes of less than 5,000 square feet.
  • Update existing Fire Protection/Life Safety drawings to reflect as-built conditions.
  • Update existing architectural infrastructure and elements to reflect changes made through additions, moves, modifications, etc.
  • Validate project room information changes in compliance with Medical Health Systems Space Planning Criteria.
  • Update DMLSS/LogiCole system with required room information.
  • Upload completed drawing updates to the MARS database, adding meta-data tag information as required.
  • Collaborate with Data Entry Clerks and Quality Control Technicians to ensure accurate information for each drawing and drawing set.
  • Import existing PDF scans of facilities and convert files to AutoDesk AutoCAD format for updates.
  • Travel to sites for the collection of digital drawings and scanning of paper drawings when digital files do not exist.
  • Provide training to MTF facility management and maintenance contractor personnel on using MARS software.
  • Actively participate as a member of the design submittal review team and project completion functional testing teams.
  • Review and evaluate engineering design drawings to ensure they accurately reflect as-built conditions.
  • Perform self-review and team-review of completed design drawings as part of the quality control process.
  • Research applications for fire systems and products and attend required training courses for professional development.
  • Participate in engineering quality control activities such as fire alarm or fire pump testing.
  • Participate in the development of drawing standards and templates for new life safety standards and fire protection products.
  • Perform field surveys to develop new designs, modify existing systems, or assist installation personnel in complex projects.
  • Assist in life safety surveys of buildings for compliance with applicable NFPA and UFC codes, and record and report any building deficiencies observed during site visits.
Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Associate's degree in computer-aided design from an accredited institution or a specialty area certificate in computer-aided design from an accredited technical college.
  • Two (2) years of experience working with Engineers utilizing Autodesk and comparable computer-aided design software.
  • Working knowledge and familiarity with facility management, building infrastructure systems, and associated standard drawing and component naming conventions.
  • Ability to collect data for analysis and develop resulting projects.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • US Citizen with National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) Clearance, or the ability to obtain said clearance.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation, including drawing, importing and exporting, layering, referencing, and printing.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings.
  • Ability to collect data from multiple sources and consolidate it into a final integrated product.
  • Familiarity with other engineering disciplines and ability to interpret multiple styles of trade drawings for coordination between trades.
  • Strong interpersonal, communicative, and analytical skills for professional presentations to diverse audiences.
