Primary Function:

Under the direction of the Chief Resource Development Officer (CRDO), the Grant Writer works as a member of BGCPBC's Resource Development team, which fulfills an ambitious grant strategy to secure funding from private and corporate foundations, federated campaigns, and government funders in support of BGCPBC programs and general operations. The position also serves as an advocate for BGCPBC, strengthening the organization's brand recognition, promoting positive relationships with community partners, and ensuring that potential new partners, including elected officials, recognize BGCPBC as the leader in keeping communities safe and prospering through the prioritization of out-of-school time. As a member of BGCPBC's Resource Development team, the Grant Writer supports the timely submission of proposals and reports across all grant funding sources as needed.

Key Roles (Essential Responsibilities):

Grant Research:

  • Monitor funding opportunities that impact out-of-school programs, particularly academic enrichment and remediation, social and emotional learning, youth mentoring, meal and snack programs, youth opioid prevention, workforce development, and youth safety.
  • Research local (City, County, State) government funding programs, including those wherein BGCPBC would be eligible as the primary applicant as well as those wherein BGCPBC may serve as a partner in programs submitted by another lead applicant.

Grant Solicitation:

  • Manage grant development process from conception through submission with proficient use of a web-based grant management platform.
  • Engage CRDO and VP of Programs in determining the feasibility of creating a new program or expanding an existing program through newly identified government funding opportunities. Engage Programs Team as needed for conceptual program development.
  • Apprise resource development team members (CRDO, Director of Grants, and Senior Grant Adviser of newly identified grant opportunities.
  • Assume lead role in submitting proposals to BGCPBC's reoccurring government funders, including Florida DOE (21st CCLC), Florida Alliance of BGC (DJJ, DOE, and DCF), BGCA (OJJDP), county, and municipalities. Coordinate all activities related to proposal development, collaborating with various departments to complete all documentation required to submit competitive proposals. Compose compelling narratives for letters of intent and proposals. Prepare all required attachments in partnership with program staff, as needed, including logic model, outcome measurement framework, theory of change, proof of cooperative community partnerships, and letters of support. For large proposals, prepare customized checklist, timelines, assignment of duties, and criteria for evaluation.
  • Collaborate with Chief Administrative & Financial Officer (CAFO), CRDO, and VP of Programs in formulating proposal budgets.
  • Manage all aspects of site visits with prospective government donors.
  • Ensure transparency by contributing to the creation of monthly reports on status of grant research and solicitation for the CRDO, CAFO, and President & CEO.

Post-Award Activities

  • Work with the Grant Coordinator/Administrative Assistant to ensure the execution of grant contracts, and, together with CRDO, notify President & CEO, CAFO, Program Staff, of newly secured awards.
  • Apprise VP of Programs and appropriate program staff of post-award grant requirements to ensure successful implementation of grant-funded programs, fulfillment of grant deliverables, and timely completion of reports.
  • Support the preparation of grant reports including assisting Programs Team with the interpretation of outcome data and composing reports in adherence to reporting requirements.
  • Inform Club Operations Staff of all awarded grants that affect Club operations.
  • Provide technical assistance to VP of Programs and Programs Team throughout the postaward grant fulfillment process as needed.
  • Communicate all Marketing/PR requirements associated with awarded grants to Marketing/PR Team.
  • Assist with keeping President & CEO, VP of Philanthropy, Events Team, and VP of Marketing and Business Development informed of programmatic highlights, member success stories, and programming needs to support fundraising efforts.

External Relations

  • Raise awareness of BGCPBC's impact by collaborating with select staff (CEO, CRDO, and CCOO, etc.) to present to local City and County Commission meetings and meetings conducted by other public entities, such as School District and law enforcement agencies.
  • Together with CRDO, serve as an ambassador who helps the President & CEO bridge any trust gaps between the organization and its investors and help staff stay in touch with key government agencies, including school district, institutes of higher education, and law enforcement agencies. Serve as a spokesperson for the organization when needed.

Other

  • Stay apprised of current advances in youth development and workforce development fields, including evidence-based programs and new strategies in local, regional, and national efforts.
  • Assist in the preparation and fulfillment of the organization's overall strategic plan, especially in relationship to governmental resource development. Develop internal systems to track and monitor new developments against established plans.

Relationships:

  • Internal: Maintain close, daily contact with staff and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel. Work with internal staff, recruit and supervise interns as needed.
  • External: Represent BGCPBC effectively at individual, group and community meetings, developing and maintaining strong relationships with current and prospective government funders. Maintain contact and build relationships with community organizations and external staff to assist in mission advancement and to identify potential program partners. Assist with managing existing public funder relationships by attending RFP forums or bidder conferences to stay abreast of funding priorities and opportunities.

  • Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in communications, English, business, non-profit management, or equivalent, plus three years in nonprofit development field.
  • Strong knowledge of Grants.gov and researching all types of grant opportunities.
  • Proven experience with securing private and corporate foundation grants and federal, state, and local government grants.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop programmatic budgets and outcome measurement frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with various constituents.
  • Proven ability to set and achieve short and long-term goals.
  • Strategic thinker with excellent analytic abilities.
  • Highly organized, accurate, and detail oriented.
  • Able to work under pressure to meet deadlines; must be able to analyze and prioritize tasks.
  • Superior and persuasive communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to use Microsoft (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other electronic support systems.
  • Possess a complete understanding of contracts and grants management.
  • Knowledge of and strong relationships with current and prospective funders.
  • Strong commitment to BGCPBC's mission.
