We provide civil/site design and land surveying, environmental, geotechnical, construction administration & inspection, accident reconstruction, roofing/building envelope, A/V system design, troubleshooting & installation, transportation design (bridge/roadway), and specialized testing services to the construction industry.

We are looking for a Construction Service Line Manager (Special Projects) who will play a key role in managing a team of Engineers, Technicians, and Office Professionals in supporting a specific functional discipline (i.e. special projects) for local and regional business needs. This role will manage individual or multiple offices and provides leadership on vision, goals and accountability on performance for the Team. You’ll oversee and manage a wide range of projects which may include those in the roadway/bridge, aviation, commercial, municipal utility/infrastructure sectors, Fiber-optic, and vertical (building) construction projects. You’ll leverage your expertise in infrastructure construction and creative problem-solving skills while collaborating closely with institutions/municipal agencies. This role will be involved with projects through every stage of the construction process, ensuring seamless integration and optimal performance.

  • This position will use experience while learning new skills to assist clients through our cross-functional team dynamic and company culture.
  • You will be involved in all project aspects including design/study development and site/field escalations during design and construction.

Highlights:

  • This position will include primarily field work/site visits with your Team and occasional office work.
  • This position works independently on broad projects under direction of an Regional Manager while managing a team of direct reports or projects.
  • Projects are typically in the central Ohio region – usually within a 60 minute travel radius. Frequent travel within this region is expected.
  • A stipend for personal vehicle use or a company vehicle may be provided, based on the assignment.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of Engineers, Technicians, and Office Professionals in supporting a specific functional discipline (i.e. special projects) for local and regional business needs.
  • Hire additional staff as needed.
  • Manage individual or multiple offices and provides leadership on vision, goals and accountability on performance for the Team.
  • Managing various projects and programs in various capacities.
  • Adhere to overarching Department goals for all team members that support the strategic initiatives.
  • Partners with other Departments to anticipate future needs/issues and forms action plans for solutions.
  • Shares successful impacts to increase value to CTL.
  • Conducts project management including; report writing and field work involving testing, walking on uneven terrain and lifting equipment and overseeing staff performing the same functions.
  • Manages budgeting and project profitability by periodically reviewing project budgets and schedules, identifying budget concerns, coordinating and preparing supplemental requests, managing projects to budget, preparing staffing requirements and making the staffing assignments, monitoring performance and client satisfaction, preparing annual budgets, identifying capital equipment needs to support staff, etc.
  • Leads the training and supervision of Technicians, Project Managers, and Engineers.
  • Leads the process for the Team to follow on projects including scheduling, due diligence, evaluation, construction quality assurance, asset management, etc.
  • Participates in business development, contract negotiations and marketing proposal when appropriate.
  • Define scope of work, assist Marketing in preparing proposals.
  • Developing strategy for winning assignments from targeted prospects with business development team, identifying appropriate construction inspection staff, prepare statements of interest with assistance from the Marketing team, etc.
  • Manage the existing projects within the construction service line (CA/CI) in Central Ohio.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of civil and engineering principles, reporting, analysis and management of teams and projects.
  • Extensive experience in the Construction industry and engineering equipment.
  • Knowledge of quality standards, management of teams and project management.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, profit and loss (P&L) statements and financial standards.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with internal and external customers.
  • Marketing/Business Development experience, with a Doer/Seller ability/attitude.
  • Team building skills.
  • Strong client retention skills.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines and standard acceptable practices.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering preferred, Associate Degree or equivalent experience/education required.
  • PE licensure is a plus but not required.
  • 12+ years of experience in Construction Administration/Construction Management.
  • Marketing/Business Development experience, with a Doer/Seller ability/attitude is a plus.
  • Managing Construction program and Managing Department.
  • Experience with management of large infrastructure projects for municipalities.
  • Experience with traffic signals, fiber & ITS is preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record.
