Analyzes samples to quantify chemical composition in accordance with National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Conference (NELAC) standards and in compliance with EPA regulations

Lab Analyst I/II/On-site GC Operator will primarily be in the laboratory but will travel to various locations to perform On-site GC analysis up to 25% of the time but typically ~10-15% of the time.

Essential Functions
  • Performs laboratory operations, including preparation, analysis, quantification of chemicals; prepares standards and samples for analysis, including quality control samples, and reports final results; analyses include: EPA Methods 5,8,18,26/26A,29,30B,201A,202, ASTM D-1945, NCASI 98.01 etc.
  • Works with the following laboratory equipment including: Ion Chromatography, Gas Chromatography (GC-FID,TCD,FPD), CVAA, Balances, Ovens etc. on a daily basis.
  • Documents work performed; maintains laboratory notebooks, recordings, software data, etc. for raw data, standard preparations, and equipment.
  • Performs routine daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance of equipment; conducts in-depth maintenance, such as electronic board replacement and troubleshooting of equipment by diagnostic methods, such as Voltage-Ohm-Meter (VOM) and Internal computer diagnostics
  • Places orders for stack, lab, water sampling and office needs; keeps track of arrival of packages and completion of orders.
  • Performs actions required to maintain accreditation; runs, reports, and passes audit samples bi-annually; completes MDL studies for each required method bi-annually, creates DOC forms for each quarter, and ensures all methods are run according to the requirements in each SOP
  • Edits and reviews documents; reviews SOPs and guidance documents to ensure all procedures accurately reflect laboratory practices and meet NELAC and/or EPA requirements
  • Maintains sample custody, control, and hazardous waste disposal
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Lab Analyst I/II/On-site GC Operator

  • Performs gas testing by traveling to the site, setting up equipment, and analyzing the gas by On-site GC including calibrating and reporting.
Required Qualifications
  • EDUCATION REQUIREMENT – Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or science-related field (for Analyst I, some college/associate’s degree; Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related field is preferred)
  • 1-3+ years in a laboratory setting (Analyst I is entry-level)
  • Experience working with hazardous chemicals
  • Able to obtain OSHA certification and H2S Safety Awareness
  • Able to obtain First aid + CPR + AED certification
  • Familiarity with various sample methods
  • Stack testing experience desired
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • General knowledge of chemistry and lab analysis operations and lab safety
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, including MS Word and Excel
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to lead a team and provide training and guidance to subordinates
  • Professional demeanor and appearance; ability to serve as a representative of the company
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to read, count, and write to accurately complete all documentation

Lab Analyst I/ II/On-site GC Operator

  • Ability to drive for extended periods of time; valid driver’s license; must be able to meet a Motor Vehicle Review in accordance with Company policy

Lab Analyst I/ II/On-site GC Operator

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will travel to/from an industrial environment, which will require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) .

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job

Sitting for extended periods and the use of hands to finger is common. Hearing and vision within normal ranges is helpful for normal conversations, to receive ordinary information and to prepare or inspect documents. Duties frequently involve repetitive motions and eye/hand/foot coordination. Testing priorities and timelines may serve as a source of emotional stress.

Occasional heavy lifting is expected. Exertion of up to 30 lbs. of force may occasionally be required. While performing the duties of this job, good manual dexterity for the use of laboratory equipment is needed. The employee is occasionally required to walk, lift, carry, push, pull, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, handle, grasp, and feel.

Use of applicable Personal Protective Equipment is mandatory.

Lab Analyst I/II/On-site GC Operator

When visiting industrial sites, use of PPE is mandatory. Duties may entail some exposure to environmental and industrial conditions including extreme heat/cold, wet conditions, humidity, noise, vibration, atmospheric conditions and industrial hazards. Frequent exertion of up to 20 pounds of force is required with occasional exertion of up to 30 pounds of force.

Travel is required up to 25% of the time but typically 10-15%
