Position Summary:

The Lead Researcher will lead the development and execution of a robust scientific research agenda. This will include publishing research that advances the mission of the Center and the institution and managing high-profile partnerships with prominent researchers across the institution and at leading universities. The Lead Researcher will be the primary principal investigator of record for day-to-day communications funder program officers. Qualified applicants may receive an academic faculty position.

Included in service to the university, the successful candidate will be expected to teach one course per semester in their academic discipline.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conceptualize, develop, advance, deliver, and publish distinct, timely, and incisive research related to health equity in scientifically peer-reviewed journals working with internal and external academic partners.
  • Lead and collaborate on discrete health equity related research projects from the early stages of development through project completion.
  • Collaborate with the Communications specialist and institution’s Communications Office on the dissemination of research activities, opportunities, published research, and research findings.
  • Guiding, training and managing the day-to-day activities of graduate student research assistants (GRAs) or part-time research assistants and study interviewers, including the development of new training materials where needed;
  • Design, execute, and manage health equity research and analysis.
  • Work with Center Director, Senior Associate Director for Research, other Center leaders, the community, and other institution subject matter experts to develop and implement community-engaged health equity research initiatives.
  • Participate in technical reviews to evaluate health equity impacts.
  • Translate health equity research and provide strategic insights to Center and institution leadership on research direction, new opportunities, and advancements in health equity.
  • Initiate, develop, support, lead and maintain collaborative relationships with leading health equity partners and thought leaders in academia, industry, and government, ensuring diversity of disciplines, health focus areas, and population characteristics.
  • Communicate key health equity research findings to external audiences, including delivering presentations at conferences, symposiums, roundtables, and other convenings.
  • Maintain expert-level skills, knowledge, and connections in social determinants of health, health disparities, diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility, and other areas relevant to health equity.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a PhD, DrPH or equivalent terminal degree in a field relevant to health services research, public health, public policy, economics, social sciences, social work, or other relevant discipline.
  • Must have post-doc experience
  • Strong foundation in quantitative and/or qualitative research methods and a broad understanding of health equity, health disparities, social determinants of health or health policy issues in the United States.
  • Demonstrated work experiences (3-5+ years) in fields relevant to the assigned responsibilities,
  • Ability to prioritize activities and manage multiple deliverables and deadlines. Experience with cross-sectional health equity data and metrics; strong understanding of intersectionality of social categorizations and its relationship to health inequities.
  • Knowledge of and experience with community-engaged research methods and participatory approaches.
  • Comprehensive understanding of culturally responsive equitable research principles
  • Experience with community capacity building preferred
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, including an ability to translate research findings for diverse audiences including lay community, policy, and scientific audience.
  • Experience managing all aspects of a research project, both independently and leading a team. Engaging and compelling writer with experience communicating scientific concepts for both technical and lay audiences.
  • Proven broad and flexible set of key skills and attributes, including the ability to: construct spreadsheet models, analyze data, and interpret and assess the results of empirical studies; independently develop and execute reports and presentations; communicate effectively with leaders and policy experts, write effectively, and think strategically and creatively in a dynamic environment.
