Job Description

Position Purpose: 
Maintain the air pollution control(APC) train in a safe and efficient manner. Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot equipment to prevent inadequate scrubbing of acid gasses and to maintain the proper residual collections from the APC train. Manage site residual waste and assist incinerator operator with troubleshooting and repairs

Primary Duties/responsibilities: 

  • Perform thorough and detailed documented rounds of the Air Pollution Control(APC) train which includes all equipment from the Quench tower downstream to the stack and all of the unit residual collection areas
  • Maintain detailed electronic logs and complete spreadsheets and paper documentation for all activities and residual tracking purposes
  • Maintains correct dosage rates of chemical additives to APC train based upon engineering recommendations
  • Oversee startup, shutdown and normal operations of caustic and acid feed systems to the points of use, including unloading of product
  • Stage Roll-off boxes for residual collections, monitors collections, samples boxes, labels, tracks, closes out paperwork, and stages residual collection boxes for 3rd party pickup.
  • Responsible for daily cleaning of pan conveyor and post meltout cleaning
  • Respond to upset and abnormal conditions in a safe and timely manner while following all established protocols and Standard Division Practices(SDP)
  • Troubleshoot, maintain, repair, test, and monitor all equipment within the APC train
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair fire systems in the APC train
  • Oversee water circulation and clarification within the APC train
  • Collect daily and special water samples for lab analysis based on feed streams
  • Perform weekly pump swaps and strainer cleanouts
  • Monitor quench flow for adequate circulation and clean strainers as needed
  • Perform routine replacement of quench tower spray ring pigtails and fan tips
  • Collect fallout from clarification process and utilize filter press to remove residual mud from the process
  • Assist in performing deslagging of the kiln as needed with residual collections and pan conveyor monitoring
  • Assist in performing routine deslagging of the Secondary Combustion Chamber(SCC) and follow up “Shootout” of the SCC bottom to remove slag inventory buildup and collect residuals
  • Perform daily ash clearing of the kiln disengaging chamber by performing Powershots
  • Report malfunctions and inoperable equipment to the maintenance department for repairs using the site Work Request System
  • Safely shut down and start up the APC train during scheduled outages as well as upset conditions
  • Perform Lock Out Tag Out(LOTO) on all systems and equipment within the APC train
  • Work with contractors and maintenance department on preventative maintenance and repairs
  • Issue permits for all work in the APC train. These permits may include:
    • Safe Work, HotWork, Line Break, and Confined Space Entry Permits
  • Oversee unit operators during outages while cleaning out all vessels and equipment, and monitor the repair efforts of contractors and maintenance on the APC train
  • Assist incinerator operator with daily external activities and unit rounds, up to and including:
    • Swapping chemical feed cylinders
    • Unplugging, clearing, and purging feed lines
    • Changing out kiln ash drums
    • Performing deslagging of SCC and Kiln
  • Train or assist in the training, development, and sign-off of APC operators
  • Maintain high level of housekeeping and ownership of the APC train
  • Collect quarterly residual samples and maintain filter press in working order
  • Report any spills or emergency situations to supervision and site Emergency Coordinators immediately and assist with remediation efforts and situational response
  • Operate a variety of rolling stock such as:
    • Forklifts, Manlifts, Scissor Lifts, Roll-Off Truck, Front-end Loader, Backhoe, 80BBL tanker, 130BBL tanker, yard Mule, and Vec-loader
Qualifications

Education / Experience / Background: 

  • High School Diploma and/or G.E.D. equivalent
  • Minimum five years process operations and six months heavy equipment operations preferred

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities: 

  • Must possess and be able to demonstrate basic operational skills such as:
    • Valve operation and Identification
    • Equipment recognition and basic operational knowledge of different types of pumps, agitators, and compressors
    • Proficient in the use of hand tools
  • Must possess basic operational knowledge of Google based applications
    • Google Sheets, Docs, & GMail
  • Must be able to learn and operate site computer programs without assistance
  • Must be able to demonstrate job competency and be able to pass a proficiency test

Required Certification / Licenses / Training: 

  • Must be able to obtain respirator certifications and maintain fit test compliance
  • Must be able to pass a DEA background screening for Powershot usage
  • Must maintain current status on all annual site and corporate training requirements
  • Must be able to get signed off on the usage of site rolling stock such as: Forklifts, Roll-off Trucks, Backhoe, Front-end Loader, Manlift, 80BBL tanker, 130BBL tanker, Vec-loader etc..
