Reports To: Sr. Director EPC

FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Type: Full-Time

Location: New York City / Charlotte / Remote

THE CHALLENGE

As a Project Development Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the technical aspects of energy project development. Your responsibilities will include conceptual design development, technical requirement definition, and project oversight..

THE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conceptual Design Development:
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to create conceptual designs for energy projects (solar, wind, BESS, thermal generation, etc.).
    • Evaluate feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and environmental impact of proposed designs.
    • Ensure alignment with project goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Technical Requirement Definition:
    • Review and define technical specifications for energy projects.
    • Work closely with stakeholders to understand project requirements and constraints.
    • Specify equipment, materials, and performance criteria.
  • Third-Party Consultant Management:
    • Coordinate with external consultants (engineering firms, environmental experts, etc.) to support project development.
    • Monitor their progress, provide guidance, and ensure timely deliverables.
  • OEM Interface:
    • Engage with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) for equipment selection, procurement, and technical support.
    • Collaborate on design modifications and optimization.
  • Support Equipment and EPC RFP Processes:
    • Assist in preparing Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for equipment suppliers and Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractors.
    • Evaluate vendor proposals and make recommendations.
  • Project Execution Oversight:
    • Participate in design reviews during project execution.
    • Address technical challenges, resolve issues, and ensure compliance with safety standards.
    • Support on-site construction activities.

THE PROFILE TO SUCCEED

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or related field).
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in energy project development, including:
  • Concept design
  • Permitting support
  • Development of technical, CAPEX, and OPEX inputs to financial models
  • Equipment and EPC RFP
  • Project design review and construction support
  • Strong technical knowledge of energy systems, equipment, and relevant codes/regulations.
  • Excellent communication skills for collaboration with internal teams, consultants, and OEMs.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet project deadlines.

THE TEAM

The Onward Energy team is collaborative, dedicated, hard-working, and down to earth. The management team is comprised of seasoned industry professionals supported by experienced project operators and advisors.

THE WORK ENVIRONMENT

Onward Energy is currently implementing a hybrid office environment, with team members in the office at least two days per week. The position functions in a smoke and vape free professional office environment. The role routinely utilizes standard office equipment such as laptop computers, phones, and scanner/photocopier.
