Job Description

Position Summary

Under general supervision, assists with Corrosion Engineering projects including cathodic protection (CP), materials selection, and protective coatings and linings. Assist with contract related activities including design, field inspection, contract administration, scheduling, and forecasting.

At the Engineering Sr. Specialist level, employees are responsible for leading projects as well as performing contract administration related activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Perform and oversee CP surveys including pipe-to-soil, close interval survey, current requirement testing, current mapping, electrical continuity testing, and other miscellaneous CP surveying.Inspect protective coatings and lining installation including surface preparation, product application, and quality control testing. Be able to perform and oversee tests for surface profile, wet and dry film thickness, adhesion, holiday, hardness, and other general coatings testing. Perform construction inspection for CP and coatings projects, be able to identify defects, potential pitfalls, and substandard work and coordinate with Contractor, project manager, and Engineer to determine solutions.Enforce Engineering specifications and details on construction projects and demonstrate sound knowledge of Association of Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP) best industry practices.Utilize GIS field data collection tools to capture CP data and ensure accuracy with respect to as built drawings. Research records and compile information to ensure accuracy of GIS systems for Corrosion field assets. Conduct and assist in field and laboratory tests, field measurements, filing of reports, and record keeping.Maintain CP assets including test stations, rectifiers, equipment, and GIS database of assets. Includes calibrations, record keeping, and tracking. Demonstrates a strong proficiency in Microsoft Office software and GIS tools. Able to manage large datasets and perform general analytic functions in Microsoft Excel and ArcGIS online. A general understanding of construction scenarios to make independent judgements in the field that lead to solutions beyond those that have been planned. Apply Engineering Standards and Operating Rules to a wide variety of project circumstances.Perform inspections in confined spaces including reservoirs, tanks, vaults, pipe, and dams. Perform related work as required.

In addition to the above, the Engineering Sr. Specialist will be responsible for:

Perform engineering-related construction contract-related activities including contract administration, schedules, and payment estimates. Perform project close-out quality assurance review duties. Implement and manage communication, projects, and program meetings.Field liaison for corrosion projects in various Authorities Having Jurisdiction and Denver International Airport. Prepare material and quantity takeoffs, maps, and data. Research records and compile information. •Perform independent manufacturer and product standard reviews. Assist development and coordination of Engineering Standards.

Education and Experience

Associate degree from an accredited college or university in a related field. (Engineering Specialist only) Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering or a related field. (Engineering Sr. Specialist only) Minimum 2 years of related work experience. (Engineering Specialist only) Minimum 4 years of related work experience. (Engineering Sr. Specialist only) Any equivalent combination of certifications, education, or experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities for the position.

Licenses, Registration, and Certifications

Must be able to possess and maintain a valid Class ‘R’ Colorado driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record.AMPP CP-1, 2 and/or AMPP CIP-1, 2 preferred.
