This position works closely with the Clinical Director; Care Support Coordinator, Integration and Transition Manager, and Facilities Managing Director and a team of other professionals to support the healthy development of our residents’ families; and, ensures a safe, secure, and clean environment for the residents and their children.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Providing residential coverage during specified hours, maintain house safety and security, and enforce house rules.
  • Ensuring a safe, secure, and clean environment by conducting weekly residential inspections; reporting residential maintenance issues, through the Facilities, Managing Director; reviewing emergency exit/evacuation plans with residents; conducting monthly fire/building evacuation drills; and maintaining first aid and universal precaution guidelines and procedures; maintaining and organizing inventories for each residence.
  • Supporting the facilitation of leisure and recreational activities for residents by, for example, helping to plan educational and/or recreational trips and/or activities;
  • Making regular rounds to ensure that residents and buildings are safe and secure. At curfew, checking that any visitors to residents have departed, doors are looked, alarm set, and common areas are clean.
  • Enforcing rules and regulations to ensure the smooth and orderly operation of the residence.
  • Complete daily and weekly internal incident reports on each resident when unusual incidents occur, noting pertinent information involving fights, abusive language directed to staff; absence from campus beyond curfew, etc.
  • Attending and participating in staff meetings, supervision sessions, training, and consultations are scheduled.
  • Developing constructive and cooperative working relationships with residents.

Qualifications

Must be over 25 years of age, high school graduate ideally with some college, and/or working toward a degree; and, at least 3 years of experience working with teens and/or young adults.

  • Ability to pass a comprehensive background check and drug screening.
  • Have a caring personality, emotional maturity, good listening skills, and the ability to be non-judgmental or critical of individuals, families, and their situations.
  • Role model through actions and words with a respect for human dignity and an appreciation for residents of all races, ethnicities, religions, abilities, and sexual orientations.
  • Role model and encourage courtesy and consideration among residents by educating them about their rights and responsibilities to one another.
  • Maintain high standards of personal conduct, including non-consumption of alcohol and/or illegal drugs in the residence or returning to the residence under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. No visitors during tours of duty.
  • Ability to act decisively when necessary to protect residents and their children.
  • Be spiritually-centered (not religious).
  • Handle information confidentially.
  • Be able to observe and report accurately on the functioning of individuals and families.
  • Have effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Have integrity, credibility, and be committed to The Mary Elizabeth House’s mission.
