Job DescriptionJob Description

The Accountant at this Newark, NJ non-profit organization will play a pivotal role in the organization's day-to-day financial operations. This role includes coordinating and maintaining financial activities, records, and reporting for assigned divisions. The Accountant ensures that all financial activity is accurately reflected in the organization’s general ledger and completes required billings and reports for funding sources. Additionally, the Accountant collaborates with the Finance team to support financial reporting, budget management, and compliance efforts. This position reports directly to the SVP of Finance.

The ideal candidate has at minimum, 3 years of experience, as an Accountant.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Administration:

· Handle day-to-day financial transactions, including accounts payable and accounts receivable

· Accumulate all invoices and ensure adequate supporting documentation is attached

· Obtain approval for invoice payments, enter them into Sage Intacct Accounting Software, and generate payments when due

· Gather, enter, and track billable expense invoices associated with different funding agencies

· Prepare accurate and detailed billable invoices for submission to various funding agencies

· Enter all payroll transactions into the general ledger

Bank Reconciliations:

· Manage and maintain a schedule for all incoming check deposits

· Conduct monthly bank account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and integrity of financial records

· Regularly monitor designated bank accounts for any unusual or exceptional transactions

· Accurately record all cash and check receipts

Account Analysis:

· Perform monthly analysis of General Ledger accounts, including fund balances, etc.

· Generate specialized analyses for specific transactions as requested by the SVP of Finance

Required Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or related field

· 2-3 years of experience as a Finance, Accounting professional, preferably in an organization that has multiple affiliates and some understanding of investment products

· Experience in or knowledge of nonprofit accounting

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with strong experience using Excel to prepare financial analysis

· Previous experience working with accounting software, Sage Intacct preferred

· Excellent analytical, organizational, and abstract reasoning skills

· Excellent communication skills with the ability to deliver presentations to diverse stakeholders

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
