POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Construction is responsible for the planning, budgeting and implementation and completion of all construction activities at Habitat for Humanity, to include new home construction, home rehabilitation, critical home repair, home preservation and weatherization activities. In this capacity, the Director interfaces with local governments, inspectors, compliance officers, vendors, engineers, sponsors, volunteers and contractors as well as communicates the status of each project and workflow to internal staff on a regular basis

 

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Home construction has many detailed tasks and code requirements.  As Director you are responsible to understand how each construction phase is to be completed – and to ensure that it is done so in an efficient, affordable, and quality manner.  Perform any other duties as deemed necessary.

 

Responsibilities:

·                     Coordination and the implementation of construction activities, priorities, and personnel

·                     Build rapport with building departments and permitting agencies.

·                     Knowledge of and experience in residential building, particularly in urban and suburban settings

·                     Assist Facilitate the streamlining of the permitting process.

·                     Arrange for all inspections, site evaluations, final walk through and home warranties.

·                     Promote long-term acquisition of in-kind materials and services.

·                     Assist in the planning of the organization’s building/budget strategy for each fiscal year and/or calendar year.

·                     Provide liaison with site selection, construction/architecture and committees on construction matters for the purpose of facilitating the flow of pertinent information among integral parts of Habitat’s organization and improving construction efficiency.

·                     Oversight of the Habitat bid room for bidding, updates, and improvements.

·                     Review construction logistics staff member recommendations for bid work by sub-contractors and ask for approval of such recommendations from the construction committee and VP

·                     Ability to read blueprints and specifications.

·                     Ability to read, construct, and be responsible for contracts.

·                     Participation in the construction committee for the purpose of improving communications and training of our regulars volunteers and crew leaders

·                     Work as a site supervisor when necessary

·                     Any other duties as deemed necessary

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS REQUIRED:

·         Considerable knowledge and experience in the residential construction industry.

·         10-years of Construction management experience required.

·         General Contractor’s license highly preferred.

·         Able to plan, organize and implement multiple tasks simultaneously, experience in public speaking, ability to work with minimal supervision, excellent verbal skills, interpersonal skills, detail oriented, generally competent in Microsoft Office.  

·         Primavera, Procore, and/or Microsoft Project is necessary, with a desire to fully utilize.

·         Team building experience a real plus.

·         High School diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s Degree preferred.

  • Must be willing to understand the big picture of the Habitat Ministry and know that construction is only a part of the larger goal.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM DUTIES:

  • Ability to climb ladders and scaffolding, maneuver over uneven ground, stand most or all of day.
  • Work environment is outdoors with minimal indoor, office work.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds; ability to operate construction tools and equipment.
  • Must have a driver’s license and maintain a good driving record
