POSITION SUMMARY:

To manage and oversee all aspects of Habitat for Humanity of Broward's construction operation in a way that utilizes staff, sub-contractors, volunteer labor, and materials to produce quality homes in a safe, affordable, and timely manner. This includes managing staff and volunteers who have varying levels of construction experience and skills, overseeing all residential construction sites, managing the plan and site development, and developing construction quality assurance methods to improve long-term product

 

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The Project Manager has the following main duties:

 

·         Serve as a Habitat Ambassador connecting volunteers to an amazing on-site Habitat experience by engaging volunteers and partner families of all skill levels in meaningful activities in building and improving homes. Lead volunteers, AmeriCorps members and residents to safely complete high quality home construction safely and on schedule.

 

·         Work closely with the construction assistants to ensure that all trades, materials and labor

are available and utilized in a timely manner to meet schedule.

 

·         Provide care and stewardship of Habitat's resources including building materials, tools, vehicles, etc. Ensure that all items are in safe working order and maintained to ensure longevity.

 

·         Oversee the scheduling and coordination of all subcontractors' work, resources, equipment, and information.

 

·         Inspect construction sites to ensure an appropriate level of quality control, and that all contractors are in complialance and on schedule.

 

·         Liaise with sub-contractors to identify and define requirements, scope, and objectives.

 

·         Responsible for schedule management.

 

·         Works with Director of Construction to establish construction schedule, adjust as needed, and provide accurate cost oversight and reporting.

 

·         Reports weekly progress to the Director of Construction.

 

·         Maintain a safe work environment by actively building and reinforcing safety standards at the sites.

 

·         Special projects as assigned by Director.

 

 

 

DAY-TO-DAY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

•      Coordinate, obtain and organize materials on site prior to and during workdays.

•      Assess tools, equipment, supplies, and volunteers needed to complete projects, on your own or in collaboration with Construction Services team members, outside experts, and/or members of the Construction team.

•      Work with Director of Volunteer Engagement to schedule and coordinate volunteer workdays. 

•      Communicate basic information about Habitat’s mission, programs, and goals with volunteers, through regular meet and greets, end-of-day wrap-up as well as general communication.

•      Work closely with volunteers to ensure that they are fully engaged in the projects and that they have a positive experience.

•      Provide regular updates to the Construction Director and team, documenting in a timely fashion the results of workdays and project status along the way.

•      Supervise any AmeriCorps or long-term volunteers assigned to assist you.

•      Work to identify potential Core Crew Leaders in cooperation with the Volunteer Engagement teams.

•      Ensure KPI goals met per year as set out by Director. 

 

WORKS CLOSELY WITH:

 

Construction Services, Volunteer Engagement and Family Services teams.

 

HOURS OF WORK:

 

The full-time Project Manager works a minimum of forty hours per week. Flexibility is necessary for field work, evening meetings and preparation for special events. Typical hours are 7 am -3pm Tuesday through Saturdays with the flexibility to work some Mondays. The Project Manager is sometimes required to work on weekends when requested and needed.

•      Know the many different reasons people volunteer and the reasons Habitat Broward chooses to build houses with volunteers.

•      Must be a good listener and be able to engage in well-considered discussions.

•      Must have good anticipatory abilities and personally act on same as needs arise.

•      Must be willing to understand the big picture of the Habitat Ministry and know that construction is only a part of the larger goal.

 

 

REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM DUTIES:

 

•      Minimum ten years’ experience in construction management.

•      Understand the Habitat or Humanity philosophy and willingly promote it.

•      Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a good driving record.

•      Able to drive Habitat or personal vehicles to work sites and vendor locations in the area. 

•      Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

•      Work effectively with Habitat staff, volunteers, and community at large.

•      Self-starter. Able to work independently without supervision.

•      Team player with ability to engage people of a wide variety of backgrounds and skills.

•      Able to lift 50 pounds.

•      Able to operate construction tools and equipment

•      Able to work, walk and climb where necessary at Habitat work sites.

•       Exchange ideas and convey detailed information accurately to staff, volunteers, subcontractors, community members and others.

•      Willing to participate in additional job-related training as assigned.

•      Convey clear, concise information to others, using verbal and other appropriate communicate techniques.

•      Complete formal training plan and assignments as required.

•      Treat others in a nondiscriminatory, lawful and ethical manner, respecting the differences among people and the value they bring to Habitat for Humanity of Broward.

•       Follow safe practices in all work activities to avoid injuries and accidents.

•      Become LEAD safe certified and complete any Habitat required training programs

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

 

•      General Contractor's license highly preferred.

•      Computers/Equipment Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Project, Outlook, PROCO RE and Primavera and a desire to fully utilize.

•      Team building experience is a real plus.

•      High school diploma or equivalent required.  Associates or Bachelor's Degree preferred.
