Private Events Sales Manager

Reporting to the Events Director, the Sales Manager is a key member of our Private Events team. This position’s central role is to expand the Museum’s private event bookings through sales initiatives, excellent client interactions, and outbound sales calls. The position requires experience working within event sales and hospitality. The ideal candidate must have proven sales experience in the events field, with direct experience in building and maintaining contacts and a book of business. The successful candidate will have superior written and oral communication skills and the ability to skillfully articulate the events value proposition at the museum. Excellent project management skills are a must and familiarity with database systems, spreadsheets, and web applications is preferred. The ability to build positive working relationships cross-departmentally and the desire and commitment to help others succeed is essential.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Event Sales: Actively sell event spaces to clients, with an emphasis on but not limited to corporate events. Other categories of events include car launches, fundraisers, weddings, birthday parties, holiday parties, film shoots, premiere parties, food festivals, bar and bat mitzvahs, social and shopping events, etc.
Actively solicit new business by conducting cold calls, off-site sales calls, emails, and presentations. Send out mailers to potential clients, including but not limited to locations scouts, event planners, alumni associations, corporate planners, and DMC.
Attend networking meetings for different organizations throughout LA, including but not limited to TTMA, WIPA, ISES, MPI, EPA, WAT, Clique, LA Tourism and Miracle Mile Chamber to represent the Museum’s Marketing and Event Sales Team.
Become involved with outside organizations that are directly related to event planner industry.
Attend local trade shows, and participate in off-site sales efforts.
Extreme emphasis on responding to inquiries in a timely manner.
Send information packets, address letters, emails and event proposals/contracts to clients.
Schedule and guide site visits with potential clients to see event space.
Update shared calendar with tentative and definite business.
Ensure all contracts and payments are signed to confirm event.
Succinctly and clearly disseminate information to the Production Operations team for all private event orders with an extreme attention to detail ensuring client event success.
Attend weekly meetings/conference calls with Operations Management and Sales teams to review upcoming events for the week.
Maintain databases.
Follow up with past clients.
Follow up after mass email/mailings.
Expectation to participate in some portion of events at the Museum, which will likely occur during evenings or weekends.
Promptly respond to all general incoming event line calls and emails.
Other duties may be assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Written and oral communication skills
Ability to write and speak in clear and compelling ways and to skillfully articulate the events value proposition at the museum.
Experience writing and proofreading persuasive copy.
Project management skills and familiarity with databases systems, spreadsheets and web applications.
The ability to build positive working relationships cross-departmentally is required.
Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree preferred
