Job Title: Parent, Student, and Community Liaison

Wage/Hour Status: Nonexempt

The Parent, Student, and Community Liaison is responsible for ensuring compliance with the state and all requirements mandated by the Texas Education Agency-TEA. This role involves working closely with our Student and Family Support Specialist to ensure smooth operations of the Parent and Family Engagement department in line with the expectations, protocols, procedures, and commitments of the Amigos Por Vida – Friends For Life Public Charter School District.

The position involves developing strategies to improve academic well-being, as well as implementing and managing school-wide parenting initiatives and activities to empower parents and guardians to actively participate in their children's education. The primary role of this position is to support our Student and Family Support Specialist, promoting multiple activities and events where parents are at the center.

The candidate will be responsible for all the ESSA components, including but not limited to:

• Parent and Family Engagement Policies and Procedures

• Parent and Family Engagement Sessions (am/pm)

• Adults English Classes Support (am/pm)

• Volunteers process, system, and monitoring

• Newsletters (English/Spanish)

• Conference Calls

• Coordinating programs to build capacity for parental involvement and ensure compliance with federal Title I

• Parental/family participation- Serve as liaison between home, school, and community.

• All other duties assigned to the success of this position and/or the district

• The candidate must have a flexible schedule during the school year, with working hours ranging from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, 7:30 am to 4:30 pm, and 9:00 am to 6:00 pm as per the department's needs.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Communicate the goals of the Parental Involvement Program to teachers, parents, and the community.

2. Assist campus staff with all responsibilities related to the Parental Involvement Program.

3. Facilitate communication between teachers and parents regarding their children's academic performance and development.

4. Inform the community and school about scheduled training sessions, conferences, and meetings through letters, ClassDojo, the website, or phone calls.

5. Conduct home visits with Student and Family Support Specialists when necessary.

6. Help Student and Parent Support Specialists organize campus Parent Education workshops and assist parents in conducting meetings.

7. Provide educational programs that enhance parenting skills and assist parents in providing academic support to their children every month.

8. Organize opportunities for parents to share concerns and input regarding their children’s educational needs.

9. Conduct outreach activities, surveys, and coordinate parent involvement opportunities.

10. Develop ongoing relationships with community-based and local faith-based organizations; articulate the school’s mission to the community and solicit its support.

11. Effectively recruit and retain parent/guardian volunteers.

12. Collect parent/guardian volunteer packets and submit them to the human resources department on a timely basis for volunteer approval.

13. Work with campus staff to plan, implement, and evaluate the use of volunteers/mentors on a systematic basis for parental volunteer surveys.

14. Maintain confidentiality of student, parent, and employee personal information.

15. Participate in and assist with community involvement committees as requested.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Ability to work well with children & adults.

• Ability to work independently on projects assigned from conception to completion.

• Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form (English/Spanish).

• Knowledge of campus instructional operations and school community demographics.

• Ability to work with a culturally diverse community of educators, students, parents, and community members.

• Ability to present to parents, students, principals, and campus staff.

• Ability to use technology, and software to develop spreadsheets and databases, and do word processing, as well as PowerPoint presentations, website documentation, and precise and accurate documentation in both languages English/Spanish.

• Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to work collaboratively and independently.

• Ability and knowledge of copier machinery, lamination, etc.

• Knowledge of promotion and public relations strategies.

• Ability to perform duties face to face, virtually on a flex schedule, upon approval by the principal and/or superintendent, in response to the demands of the department, natural disasters, catastrophic events, etc., and will be subject to virtual learning policies and procedures as outlined in the employee handbook. Minimum Experience: Applicants should have a minimum of two years of successful experience working with both children and adults in a similar role.

Qualifications/Education:

• Associate degree in Child and Family Studies

• Bachelor's degree in Family Dynamic/Studies, Family and Human Development, Human Development and/or Family Sciences preferred • 2 years’ experience in community-based outreach program

• 2 years’ experience in a school-based program

Working Conditions: Regular attendance is expected and required, although occasional absences are permissible. In the performance of this role, the employee will regularly need to stand, sit, kneel/squat, bend/stop, push/pull, twist, and walk. The job will involve repetitive hand motions, including frequent keyboarding and mouse usage, along with occasional reaching. Additionally, the employee may occasionally be required to lift and carry light items weighing less than 15 pounds, as well as heavy items weighing 45 pounds or more. There may also be the need to transfer materials that are not always office-related but are needed for the Parent and Family Engagement Department. The work may be both indoors and outdoors, with regular noise exposure. Regular districtwide travel to students’ homes and occasional statewide travel may be necessary. The employee must be able to work with frequent interruptions and maintain emotional control under stress. Additionally, the employee may be required to work prolonged or irregular hours.
