The Hawaii Convention Center, a premier event destination known for its commitment to excellence in hospitality and service, is seeking a talented and experienced Sous Chef to join our dynamic culinary team. The Sous Chef will play a crucial role in supporting the Executive Chef in daily kitchen operations, ensuring the delivery of high-quality food for events ranging from international conferences to elegant banquets. This position demands creativity, leadership, and a passion for culinary arts, along with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.


Responsibilities:

  • Kitchen Management: Oversee and coordinate kitchen staff activities to ensure efficient and seamless operations.
  • Quality Control: Ensure that all dishes leaving the kitchen meet the highest standards of excellence in terms of taste and presentation.
  • Inventory and Purchasing: Manage inventory levels, order supplies, and negotiate with vendors to meet kitchen needs while adhering to budget constraints.
  • Staff Training: Mentor and train kitchen staff on culinary techniques, plating, and kitchen efficiency, fostering a culture of learning and excellence.
  • Health and Safety Compliance: Uphold and enforce strict health and safety standards, including food handling and cleanliness practices.
  • Operational Efficiency: Streamline kitchen processes to enhance productivity without compromising on quality.
  • Event Execution: Collaborate with event planners and the culinary team to execute menus for a variety of events, ensuring client satisfaction.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a sous chef or similar leadership role within a high-volume, high-quality kitchen environment.
  • Strong leadership skills, with a proven ability to manage, inspire, and develop a diverse culinary team.
  • Culinary arts degree or equivalent professional kitchen experience preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of cooking techniques, cuisines, and current culinary trends.
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
