The successful candidate will oversee field operations, manage site personnel, and ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This role requires a deep understanding of dirt work, site grading, excavation, and other civil construction activities, along with strong leadership and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Site Management and Supervision:

  • Project Oversight:

    • Lead and supervise a team of field workers, including equipment operators, laborers, and subcontractors, ensuring that all activities are performed safely and efficiently.
    • Coordinate daily site operations, including excavation, grading, earthmoving, utility installation, and other civil works.
    • Monitor project progress and quality, making adjustments as needed to ensure timely completion and adherence to project specifications.

  • Resource Allocation:

    • Manage and allocate resources, including labor, equipment, and materials, to optimize project efficiency and minimize costs.
    • Ensure that all equipment is maintained and operated safely, conducting inspections and coordinating repairs as necessary.

  • Safety Compliance:

    • Implement and enforce safety protocols, conducting regular safety meetings and inspections to ensure a safe working environment.
    • Address safety concerns and incidents promptly, maintaining compliance with OSHA and other regulatory requirements.

Project Planning and Coordination:

  • Schedule Management:

    • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, coordinating with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure that deadlines are met.
    • Identify and resolve potential delays or conflicts, proactively managing project timelines.

  • Communication:

    • Serve as the primary point of contact for on-site communications, facilitating collaboration between project teams, clients, and subcontractors.
    • Provide regular updates to project managers and stakeholders, including progress reports, site conditions, and any issues that arise.

  • Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate records of daily activities, labor, equipment usage, and materials, ensuring all documentation is up-to-date and accessible.
    • Prepare and submit reports on project status, safety, and any incidents or deviations from the project plan.

Quality Control and Problem Solving:

  • Quality Assurance:

    • Ensure that all work is performed to the highest standards, conducting quality inspections and addressing any deficiencies promptly.
    • Collaborate with engineers and quality control teams to resolve issues and implement corrective actions as needed.

  • Problem Solving:

    • Identify and resolve on-site challenges, including technical issues, equipment breakdowns, and personnel conflicts, using effective problem-solving skills.
    • Implement innovative solutions to improve project efficiency and quality.

Qualifications:

  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 7 years of experience in dirt work and civil construction, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or foreman role.
    • Proven track record of successfully managing and completing large-scale civil projects, including site grading, excavation, and utility installation.

  • Education:

    • High school diploma or equivalent is required. An associate degree or technical certification in construction management or a related field is preferred.

  • Skills:

    • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and direct a diverse workforce.
    • Excellent knowledge of civil construction methods, equipment, and safety standards.
    • Proficiency in reading and interpreting project plans, specifications, and blueprints.
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with clients, subcontractors, and project teams.
    • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
