Southern California United Food & Commercial Workers Unions & Food Employers Joint Benefit Funds Administration, LLC (The Funds) were created more than 40 years ago as a result of collective bargaining between the Southern California Retail Food Employers and the Southern California UFCW Union Locals. The Funds serve in excess of 100,000 participants There are two Funds, the Pension Fund and the Benefit Fund--through which member retirement and health and welfare benefits are provided.

The Funds Office is currently searching for a General Accountant who is responsible for using moderately complex financing calculations to perform a variety of accounting functions in the evaluation and recording of financial data in accordance with GAAP. Have a good understanding of the processes that interface the general ledger and have the ability to convey this information to staff and/or auditors. This position is subject to Collective Bargaining.

General Responsibilities:

  1. Review data contained in general ledger, bank statements and various systems to assure accuracy and reasonableness of recorded financial transactions.
  2. Validate and prepare daily cash transfers including initiate wire transactions between multiple banks
  3. Trust account balancing: reconciliations for various cash accounts.
  4. Review and reconcile General Ledger (GL) accounts to ensure all financial information has been captured.
  5. Prepare monthly back fee analysis utilizing bank statements and other information for multiple accounts.
  6. Balance interfund accounts and make necessary cash and GL transfers.
  7. Prepare all journal entries, correctly enter all adjusting journal entries to ensure the proper month end closing procedures are performed.
  8. Communicate status of work to department leadership to ensure all deadlines are met.
  9. Prepare tax, audit and other regulatory schedules and reports
  10. Able to provide cross departmental coverage for various Accounting functions.
  11. Comply with the policies of the Trust Fund office, as set forth in the Employee Handbook.
  12. Abides by organizational and HIPAA guidelines, privacy practices, and confidentiality.
  13. Regular and consistent attendance.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university strongly desired
  • Able to utilize MS Office (Excel, Word and Outlook) required with intermediate to advanced Excel skills
  • Stellar documentation skills
  • Prior experience with a qualified ERP Accounting System
  • Ability to maintain accurate accounting records
