SUMMARY

The Propane Service Technician is responsible for excellent customer service and for all new propane tank installations, maintenance, and leak checks as well as assisting in all departments as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

(Includes the following and other duties may be assigned.)

Responsible for:

  • New customer propane tank installations, service on existing customer propane tanks and safety leak checks on existing systems.
  • Filling in for fuel and propane delivery drivers during their absence.
  • Collaborating with VP Energy to spend some time focusing on growing propane sales.
  • Assisting as needed in the following:
    • Unloading and loading grain trucks
    • Loading feed (primarily Wamego and St. Mary’s locations)
    • Filling anhydrous tanks and maintenance of anhydrous facilities
    • Filling propane bottles (primarily Wamego and St. Mary’s locations)
    • Assisting with warehouse duties as needed
    • Performing general housekeeping duties, maintains clean work areas, and secures equipment and facilities when closing
  • Providing excellent customer service by managing difficult or emotional situations; responding promptly to customer needs, resolving questions, complaints and concerns immediately and meeting commitments.
  • Prompt and regular attendance.
  • Working long hours during harvest seasons and/or propane delivery.
  • Presenting a clean and professional appearance.
  • Working with other cooperative staff at other locations to ensure cooperative goals are met.
  • Adherence to safety policies.
  • Adherence to cooperative credit policy.
  • Promoting and adhering to the company Core Values of honesty, integrity & teamwork.
  • Employee is required to perform all other duties as directed including working at other locations as requested.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Previous experience related to grain, feed, fertilizer, chemicals and/or farms supplies is preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with customers or employees of the cooperative.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, volume, and weights.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS

Commercial Driver’s License Class B with Haz-Mat, Airbrake and Tanker Endorsements and/or the ability to obtain and maintain. CETP (Certified Employee Training Program) Certification.

REASONING ABILITY

The ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Able to deal with problems with several concrete variables in standard situations. Must be able to think quickly and perform a mental assessment of workplace hazards, take appropriate precautions, and choose appropriate PPE as dictated by need, regulation and labeling.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and/or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 112 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to legally operate a grain elevator manlift with the door closed, (300 lb. weight limit), climb stairs, and climb ladders to the top of the elevator (approximately an additional 30’-40’). The employee may occasionally need to climb ladders that may range from 20’ to 180’. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; wet and/or humid condition; extreme cold and extreme heat; toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places; risk of electrical shock and explosives. The noise level in this work environment usually loud (although not believed to exceed the eight-hour threshold for working in or around loud equipment). Employee must understand and implement all related safety policies, procedures and programs for prevention and protection while performing job duties in various work environments.
