Contemporaries is a government contracting firm looking to add a Registered Research Nurse to a 5-year contract with the National Institutes of Health. Fitting candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in nursing and at least 4 years of experience working in a clinical research environment. Candidates will be required to have a current state nursing license. This position will be a full-time, onsite position in a clinical setting. This Research nurse will recruit, observe, and guide participants during research studies and testing, including recording data and reactions.

Duties:

  • Perform assessments and collect medical histories and physicals.
  • Use computer-based systems to receive examination requisition, retrieve patient info needed for examinations, and record patient data.
  • Schedule testing and clinic appointments.
  • Assess participant physiologic condition and monitor throughout visit and discharge.
  • Assess and record patient reaction to drugs and report adverse reactions to investigators.
  • Conduct patient recruitment.
  • Educates patients and families about conditions, treatments, and medications.
  • Prepares patients for surgical and/or diagnostic procedures, explaining activities and steps of procedures.
  • Schedule new/return patient’s appointments and return patients/families phone calls.
  • Prepare medication instructions and detail steps necessary to properly self-administer, monitor, and report results in the case of adverse reactions.
  • Attend and participate in patient care conferences.
  • Collaborates with physicians to plan, evaluate, coordinate, and revise programs to deliver the most efficient healthcare service.
  • Attend patient rounds, protocol information meetings, participate in patient care conferences, and write and maintain research protocols.
  • Manage testing to ensure that projects and protocol responsibilities are completed within timelines given the availability and allocation of resources related to clinical trials.
  • Coordinate the collection and analysis of research data.
  • Assist Nurse Practitioners, evaluate and make recommendations to improve patient care, and adhere to good clinical practices.
  • Performs procedures like IV placement, phlebotomy, and administering medications, and monitors patient progress.
  • After successful completion of physical exam, administer and document medications per physician’s orders.
  • Insert and maintain peripheral access intravenous (IV) lines and provide care for central venous access lines.
  • Perform phlebotomy to collect clinical and research blood samples per doctor’s orders and protocol requirements.

Profile:

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in nursing and 4 years of experience in a clinical research environment.
  • Current Nursing Sate license.
  • Experience managing databases, research data, testing data, and patient physical information or data.
  • Excellent MS Office Suite skills.
  • Strong research skills, especially regarding good clinical practice.
  • Excellent communication skills and great bedside manners.
