About the Job
The Fire and Life Safety Estimator has primary responsibility for developing and pursuing new business, providing detailed, accurate estimates and quotes, and following through with the service team, office staff and customers to ensure work quoted is completed, invoiced and paid in a timely manner.
The Fire and Life Safety Estimator is an experienced service professional with a working knowledge and understanding of fire and life safety systems including fire sprinkler and fire alarm systems, project, operational and budgetary requirements, including system design, installation and legal or regulatory requirements as well as experience developing quotes.
This industry knowledge base coupled with an ability to develop strong customer relationships, provide accurate, actionable quotes and follow through to ensure sales increase, customers are satisfied, and invoices are completed and paid in a timely manner is essential.
Responsibilities:
- Developing customer relationships and new business and seeking to understand customer needs and propose solutions.
- Identifying and bidding on new projects.
- Reviewing plans, specifications and requirements.
- Calculating job needs including material, specialized parts, costs, labor and creating detailed, accurate estimates, quotes and bids in a timely manner to customers.
- Develops a schedule and cost-effective plan for completion of an assigned project and creating preconstruction estimates and budgets for materials and labor.
- Monitoring the overall progress of a project and work site, review processes and practices within teams to ensure consistency, efficiency, and quality of delivery.
- Ensures specifications and regulations outlined in architectural and engineering plans are followed.
- Ensures material and equipment is ordered in advance and is onsite for installation.
- Monitoring and tracking material usage for all installation jobs, verifies work orders and reviews purchase orders to ensure accuracy. Communicates with leadership including the Field Superintendent and Administrative Manager as needed.
- Ensuring that electronic work order documentation is completed by all staff in a timely manner to ensure appropriate invoicing.
- Communicating with the Service Manager, Administrative Manager and support staff to ensure parts and materials are ordered, service technicians are scheduled, and job is completed according to customer specifications and communicating needs, and information for invoicing.
- Acting as a liaison with the customer to ensure satisfaction.
- Becoming highly proficient in proprietary computer software systems use to build quotes, invoice and bill customers, and maintaining accurate, prompt record keeping.

Job Requirements
The successful candidate must meet the following requirements:
- A minimum of 3 years' experience in the fire and life safety industry installing, repairing or servicing fire sprinklers, fire pumps and fire alarm systems; and/or project estimating or project management, or a combination that would provide equivalent experience.
- A minimum of 1 year of experience, preferably in fire and life safety or similar environment in project estimating and job quoting.
- Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, schematics, submittals, and operational/product manuals
- Knowledge of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Codes and Standards for Fire Protection Ability to read and understand blueprints and schematic
- Excellent communication skills and customer service skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills, with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong computer skills and knowledge of standard office software (Office 365, Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel), and online databases and platforms.
- High level of proficiency in English language (read/write/speak)
