About the Role

We are seeking an engaged and empathetic Patient Account Specialist to join our team. You will play a crucial role in managing and optimizing our patient accounts, and you will be responsible for accurately applying patient payments, addressing billing inquiries, and ensuring seamless communication between patients and the practice. Your attention to detail and organizational skills will be key in maintaining accurate records, resolving claims, and supporting the revenue cycle—collaboration with our call center and insurance teams to ensure a seamless patient experience. Responsibilities:

  • Payment Processing: Apply patient payments to the appropriate accounts, including processing and posting payments received by mail or directly to the patient’s chart.
  • Returned Mail: Handle returned mail, including liens or bad addresses, ensuring proper follow-up and resolution.
  • Billing Support: Assist patients with billing questions via phone or in-office, providing clear explanations and resolving any issues.
  • Record Keeping: Accurately record patient communications in the practice EMR and patient communication logs.
  • Correspondence & Document Management: Review and process/handle correspondence documents, applicable faxes, explanation of benefits, etc., according to established protocols.
  • Claims Follow-Up: Proactively follow up on patient accounts to ensure timely claims resolution and address any discrepancies.
  • Pre-Certification and Authorization: Initiate, track, and review pre-certifications and authorizations as required.
  • Payment Plans: Set up and manage payment plans, making adjustments for contractual write-offs and other account-specific needs.
  • Reporting: Provide leadership with reports on cost revenue cycle trends, identifying key metrics and insights.


Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience: Understanding and working knowledge of revenue cycle management. Experience in medical billing, coding, or high-volume processing is preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Excellent organizational, time management, and attention to detail skills to ensure the accuracy of information.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with patients, providers, clinical staff, business office personnel, and insurance companies.
    • Ability to clearly communicate and apply policies and principles to resolve daily challenges and handle various situations.
    • Proven analytical skills with the ability to identify problems and recommend effective solutions.
    • Proficiency in MS Suite programs, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Analytics Reporting.

Monday to Thursday 7:00am/8:00am - 5:00pm/6:00pm
9-10 hours per day.
