HR Assistant needed for a manufacturing company in Santa Ana. Great opportunity for an individual that wants to become part of an Employee-owned company for the long haul. Opportunity to grow into the HR Generalist role.

Temporary to hire position paying $23 - 30/hr, depending on experience. Hours are Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM, with a 30 minute break. This is an onsite position. Excellent benefits including Medical, Dental and Vision at no weekly cost to employee as well as company paid Life Insurance, EAP, FSA, 401K.  

Responsibilities: 

  • Integral part of the recruitment process; post open positions, source candidate selections, presentation to the hiring manager, coordination of interviewing, preparation of offers, put into background check, request credentials, and finally handoff to our HR Specialist.
  • Maintains new hire check off list.
  • Organizes and manages HR records.
  • Tracks and updates commercial auto insurance drivers’ coverage.
  • Updates our employee contact list.
  • Works with our safety team on pre-employment drug & alcohol screening.
  • Assists in our Annual Open Enrollment for benefits.
  • Assists in HR SOP’s.
  • Assists in creating a learning and career path planning for our new managers and office and field staff.
  • Health & Wellness initiatives.
  • Update/create organizational charts.
  • Updates Employee Handbooks.

Payroll Assistance:

  • Assists the Payroll Specialist with weekly entries into Paychex Flex and will work independently processing payroll as needed.
  • Files any changes/time off requests into personnel files
  • Tracking of any missed meal breaks.

HR Specialist Assistance:

  • Assist our HR Specialist with all aspects of leave and work accommodation; including but not limited to, FMLA, PFL, and CFRA. Other areas may include compensation, prevailing wages, insurance benefits. Various other assignments will also be shared with you.

Skills Required:

  • At least 2 to 3 years of HR experience while working in a team environment.
  • Requires prior knowledge of principles and best practice of human resources while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Experience working in the construction industry a plus; boiler, plumbing, electrical, or HVAC.
  • Intermediate use of Paychex Flex, Microsoft Office, and HR related software.
  • Prior payroll processing experience for California branches and out-of-state, along with prevailing wages, union workers is highly preferred.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and computer literacy.
  • Strong ability to prioritize work, excellent organizational skills, and initiative to improve processes.
