Skills and Knowledge:

  • Knowledge: General understanding of patient access, financial counseling, insurance, and medical terminology. Knowledge of EMTALA and Consent Laws.
  • Skills: Strong time management, communication, and active listening skills. Ability to work efficiently in multiple computer systems. Attention to detail, decision-making, problem-solving skills, and ability to handle confidential information.
  • Proficiency: Computer skills with a focus on data accuracy, customer service, and meeting productivity standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Registration: Greet patients, verify demographic, clinical, financial, and insurance information, and enter data into registration systems.
  • Order Processing: Obtain and process signed physician orders.
  • Insurance Verification: Conduct insurance eligibility and benefit verification, calculate patient liabilities, and collect payments.
  • Financial Counseling: Refer cases to financial counseling when necessary.
  • Compliance: Adhere to regulations and confidentiality standards, including EMTALA and Consent Laws.
  • Data Management: Maintain accurate records and manage data in various computer systems (e.g., patient registration, document imaging, payment posting).
